Article Abstract

Understanding the stability of single nanoparticles is crucial for optimizing their performance in various applications, including catalysis. In this study, we employed electrochemiluminescence (ECL) imaging to investigate the temporal stability of individual Au and Pt nanoparticles within precisely engineered arrays. Our results reveal significant differences in the stability of Au and Pt NPs. While both exhibit initial decay due to diffusion limitations, Au NPs undergo more rapid degradation, attributed to surface oxidation and detachment. In contrast, Pt NPs demonstrate much better stability with little surface oxidation. This study provides valuable insights into the fundamental behavior of single-NP electrocatalysis and highlights the potential of ECL imaging as a powerful tool for unraveling the complex dynamics of nanoscale systems.

Electrochemiluminescence (ECL) microscopy has emerged as a powerful technique for single-cell imaging owing to its unparalleled background-free imaging advantages. However, controlled intracellular ECL imaging remains challenging. Here, we developed a stimuli-responsive self-assembled DNA nanomachine that enables the ECL imaging of intracellular target biomolecules in single cells.

Glycolysis, a pivotal step in yeast metabolism, plays an indispensable role as a carbohydrate utilization process crucial for cellular survival. Developing advanced technologies to elucidate this fundamental physiological process holds significant scientific implications. Electrochemiluminescence (ECL) imaging exhibits the advantage of negligible background interference and facilitates straightforward visualization, thereby conferring significant value in biomolecular observation.

Electrochemiluminescence (ECL) of the conventional system of [Ru(bpy)3]2+ luminophore and amine-based coreactants is particularly inefficient on noble metal electrodes. This is due to the formation of a passivating oxide layer on the metal surface inhibiting the electro-oxidation of amines like tri-n-propylamine (TPrA) coreactant, Herein, we demonstrated the enhancement of ECL emission on gold surface by hydroxyl radicals attack that are chemically generated with Cu-Fenton reagent. These radicals selectively deactivate the gold active sites and knockout the metal surface asperities that counterintuitively led to an amplification of the ECL emission.

The escalating needs in information protection underscore the urgency of developing advanced encryption strategies. Herein we report a novel chemical approach that enables information encryption by on-paper electrochemiluminescence (ECL). Dendritic porous silica nanospheres modified with polyetherimide and bovine serum albumin were prepared as the chemical ink to write the secret message on a paper.

Visual electrochemiluminescence (ECL) has emerged as a prominent diagnostic method for accurately quantifying various disease markers even at point of care setting with high sensitivity and accuracy. It does not employ complicated instruments such as potentiostat and expensive imaging microscopy for quantifying trace amounts of molecules. The ECL system offers significant advantages over other detection processes, such as high sensitivity, selectivity, rapid response, multiplexing, and miniaturization capabilities, making it well-suited for future commercialization.
