A 13-year-old boy was referred to orthopedic surgery for chronic intermittent pain and swelling of the left knee. Initial imaging was consistent with osteochondritis dissecans of the femoral condyle. Follow-up imaging demonstrated unexpected progression, with a mass extending into the notch, replacing the anterior cruciate ligament, and eroding the femoral and tibial condyles.

Vascular calcification (VC), associated with high cardiovascular mortality in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), involves osteogenic transdifferentiation of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs). O-GlcNAcylation, a dynamic post-translational modification, is closely linked to cardiovascular diseases, including VC. However, the exact role and molecular mechanism of O-GlcNAc signaling in abnormal mineral metabolism-induced VC remain unclear.

Background: The ratio of triglycerides to high-density-lipoprotein cholesterol (TG/HDL-C) is increasingly recognized as a practical marker for insulin resistance and cardiovascular risk assessment. This retrospective study investigates the potential of the TG/HDL-C ratio to predict the development of calcific aortic valve disease (CAVD), thereby extending its applicability in cardiovascular diagnostics.
Methods: Data from 400 individuals, comprising 200 patients with diagnosed CAVD and 200 matched healthy controls, were analyzed.

Introduction: Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is a connective tissue disease at the interface between inflammation and autoimmunity progressively leading to diffuse microvascular and fibrotic involvement of the skin and of multiple internal organs. Approximately, 20-40% of SSc patients suffer from cutaneous calcinosis, a debilitating manifestation due to calcium salt deposition in soft connective tissues, causing pain, ulceration, infection, and deformities, responsible of severe functional limitations. Pathomechanisms are poorly understood as well as markers/molecules capable to predict the risk of patients to develop calcinosis.

An appendiceal mucocele is a rare clinical entity often mimicking that of acute appendicitis in a majority of cases leading to incidental intraoperative findings. Nevertheless, appropriate diagnosis is vital prior to surgery to prevent complications such as pseudomyxoma peritonei. This report details a case of a man in his 70s, who was admitted to the emergency department with right iliac fossa pain with imaging showing wall thickening of the caecum and the ascending colon.
