Background: Paper-based patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) and patient education can assist in improving outcomes but is administratively burdensome. Mobile phone applications ('apps') can distribute extensive information and PROMs at relevant time points. This study aimed to assess the suitability of an app to guide postoperative management and record PROMs based on satisfaction and compliance.

Methods: Thirty-four patients who were scheduled for a total hip/knee arthroplasty were enrolled into the study. Automatic notifications were sent by the app to complete PROMs at the appropriate time points. Patients were reminded via phone call if PROMs were not completed. An app satisfaction questionnaire was also completed, where a high score represented satisfaction with the app.

Results: Patients remained satisfied with the app throughout the study with a mean score of 19.0 out of 25. 57% found the app to be helpful with completing surveys, with 63% preferring the app over paper handouts. Majority of the participants (68%) stated that they would use the app again. There was an overall mean compliance of 78% at all time points. Most patients (82%) required at least one phone call reminder, with 18% of patients completing their PROMs prompted by the app notification alone.

Conclusions: A mobile phone app can be useful for both distributing patient education and collecting PROMs. PROMs collected using a mobile phone app still caused some administrative burden with many participants requiring multiple reminders to complete their questionnaires. While paper-forms will still be required for some patients, most found the app preferable to paper-form.

The evolution of body weight under the natural trypanosome challenge and its association with disease tolerance to trypanosomosis is of utmost economic importance in cattle. This study estimated heritability for growth traits and packed cell volume (PCV) and their genetic correlations in the N'Dama cattle in the Gambia. A total of 2,488, 2,442, 1,471, 1,934, and 1,452 bodyweight records at 12 months (WT12), 16 months (WT16), 18 months (WT18), 24 months (WT24), 36 months (WT36) and 50 months (WT50) and 1,782, 1,800, 1,844, 1,608, and 1,459 records for PCV at 12 months (PCV12) 18 months (PCV18), 24 months (PCV24), 36 months (PCV36), and 50 months (PCV50), respectively, were analysed.

Histone deacetylase 3 (HDAC3) inhibitors keep significant therapeutic promise for treating oncological, neurodegenerative, and inflammatory diseases. In this work, we developed robust QSAR regression models for HDAC3 inhibitory activity and acute toxicity (LD, intravenous administration in mice). A total of 1751 compounds were curated for HDAC3 activity, and 15,068 for toxicity.

As technological interfaces are relatively new cultural tools, regular interaction can lead to new psychological phenomena, like the baby duck syndrome, where users favor old interfaces over updates. This syndrome is seen as a cognitive bias in human-computer interaction. Two studies were conducted: Study 1 on an Airbnb app (old vs.

Objective: This study investigates the effectiveness of a newly developed smartphone-based application for teaching population oral health needs assessment to undergraduate dental students.

Methods: Target population in this study consisted of all students of Shahid Beheshti School of dentistry in the 7 and 8 semesters in the year 2023. The intervention group (7 semester) received teaching about population oral health needs assessment based on the book "Oral health surveys; basic methods", by means of an application, while the control group (8 semester) received the same content through self-learning activity.

This study aimed to investigate the impact of chronic cerebral hypoperfusion (CCH) on cognitive function, amyloid-β (Aβ) deposition, cellular autophagy, and mitochondrial dynamics in an Alzheimer's disease (AD) mouse model, and to evaluate the intervention effects of autophagy modulation on these outcomes. Utilizing the APP/PS1 mouse model combined with CCH, we assessed cognitive function, Aβ deposition, and the expression levels of relevant proteins through behavioral tests and immunohistochemical analysis. Our findings revealed pronounced cognitive deficits and increased Aβ deposition in the AD + CCH group mice, along with upregulation of mitochondrial fission proteins (Drp1, Fis1) and downregulation of mitochondrial fusion proteins (Opa1, Mfn1), indicating a shift towards mitochondrial fission and promoting cell apoptosis.
