Background: Microsurgical nasal replantation is a rare yet important procedure in order to regain the respiratory, olfactory, and aesthetic features of the nose. However, due to the traumatic nature of most nasal amputations, appropriate veins for anastomosis are difficult to find- complicating replantation. This is the first systematic review that compares peri operative and post-operative outcomes in arterial only versus arterial and venous anastomosis for nasal replantation.

Renal Cell Carcinoma with Venous Tumor Thrombus: 15 Years of Experience in an Oncology Center.

J Clin Med

October 2024

Department of Urology, Instituto Português de Oncologia do Porto, 4200-072 Porto, Portugal.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on the management of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) patients with venous tumor thrombus (VTT) at a Portuguese oncology center from 2008 to 2023, involving a retrospective analysis of 64 patients.
  • The majority of patients had lower levels of VTT (0 to II), with no peri-operative deaths reported and a low major complication rate of 3.1%.
  • Key findings showed that larger tumor size, sarcomatoid differentiation, and invasion of the collecting system were significant predictors of cancer-specific survival, highlighting the need for close monitoring in these high-risk patients.
