The study evaluates the effectiveness of sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) and a commercial quaternary ammonium compound (QAC) against planktonic and biofilm-associated yeast (, , , and ) isolated from ultrafiltration modules in a clarified apple juice production facility. The results demonstrated that the efficacy of disinfection against planktonic yeast cells did not directly correlate with the effectiveness against biofilm-embedded cells. QAC proved to be more effective than NaOCl in reducing yeast biofilms, achieving a higher than 3-log reduction in cell counts. In contrast, NaOCl, even at its maximum permissible concentration for food-contact surfaces, exhibited limited efficacy against biofilms. Both disinfectants had limited success in preventing biofilm regrowth, indicating the potential for persistent contamination in food processing environments. Furthermore, both agents compromised biofilm structure, with QAC having a significantly more pronounced impact than NaOCl.

A new humic acid-based nanomagnetic copper(II) composite was prepared and used as an eco-friendly recoverable catalyst for synthesizing 1,4-disubstituted 1,2,3-triazoles. The synthesis was done via the three-component click reaction of alkyl halide, sodium azide, and terminal alkyne with good to excellent yield. A simple magnetic copper acetate composite, FeO@HA-Cu(OAc), was prepared using humic acid and characterized by SEM, TEM, XRD, EDX, EDS-mapping, VSM, TGA, AAS, and FT-IR.

The contamination of Chinese medicinal materials with cadmium (Cd) is a pressing global issue that poses significant risks to human health. The beneficial effects of selenium (Se) have been established in improving plant growth and reducing Cd accumulation in plant under Cd stress. This study employed soil cultivation experiments to investigate the remediation effects of exogenous Se (0, 0.

Sodium metal batteries without pre-deposited Na (anode-free) and with a limited amount of Na metal (anode-less) have attracted increasing attention due to their competitive energy density and the high abundance of sodium. However, severe interfacial issues result in poor cycling stability and low Coulombic efficiency. Here, the lightweight interphase layers composed of intermetallic nanoparticles (Sn-Cu and Sn-Ni) are applied to improve Na plating/stripping behaviors.

Butyrate may decrease intestinal inflammation and diarrhea. This study investigates the impact of oral application of sodium butyrate (NaB) and tributyrin (TB) on colonic butyrate concentration, SCFA transporter expression, colonic absorptive function, barrier properties, inflammation, and microbial composition in the colon of slc26a3 mice, a mouse model for inflammatory diarrhea. In vivo fluid absorption and bicarbonate secretory rates were evaluated in the cecum and mid-colon of slc26a3 and slc26a3 mice before and during luminal perfusion of NaB-containing saline and were significantly stimulated in both slc26a3 and slc26a3 colon by NaB.

However, internal quality control (IQC) performed infrequently may be associated with increased risk of missed error (i.e.
