An optical biosensor is a specialized analytical device that utilizes the principles of optics and light in bimolecular processes. Localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) is a phenomenon in the realm of nanophotonics that occurs when metallic nanoparticles (NPs) or nanostructures interact with incident light. Conversely, surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) is an influential analytical technique based on Raman scattering, wherein it amplifies the Raman signals of molecules when they are situated near specific and specially designed nanostructures.

Despite the availability of multiple treatment options for breast cancer, challenges such as adverse events, drug resistance, and disease progression persist for patients. The identification of human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) as an oncogenic driver in a subset of breast cancers, alongside the development of HER2-targeted therapies, has significantly improved the prognosis of HER2-amplified breast cancers. However, therapeutic options remain limited for HER2-overexpressing or HER2-negative breast cancers.

Lactic acid (LA) is an essential glycolytic metabolite and energy source in the body, which is present in high levels in the synovial fluid of patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and is a reliable indicator for identifying inflammatory arthritis. LA not only acts as an inflammatory amplifier in RA, recent studies have found that novel posttranslational modification (PTM) lactylation mediated by LA may also play a key role in RA. Single-cell sequencing showed that the RA lactylation score of patients with RA was significantly increased, and core lactylation-promoting genes, including NDUFB3, NGLY1, and other genes, were found to be potential biomarkers of RA.

Introduction: Viral vectors have proven useful for delivering genetic information, such as drugs and vaccines, for therapeutic and prophylactic interventions. Self-amplifying RNA viruses possess the special feature of high-level RNA amplification in the host cell cytoplasm providing high antigen production against infectious pathogens and various types of cancers, and expression of anti-tumor genes, toxic genes, and immunostimulatory genes.
Areas Covered: Self-amplifying RNA viral vectors have been evaluated in animal models and clinical trials for immune responses and protection against challenges with pathogenic infectious agents and tumor cells.

Cancer continues to pose a formidable challenge in global health due to its incidence and increasing resistance to conventional therapies. A key factor driving this resistance is tumor hypoxia, characterized by reduced oxygen levels within cancer cells. This hypoxic environment triggers a variety of adaptive mechanisms, significantly compromising the efficacy of cancer treatments.
