Background: Bat-borne hantaviruses have been identified worldwide but little is known about neotropical bats in the megadiverse biomes of the American continent. Although serological evidence has hinted at hantavirus circulation in Brazil, the scarce number of genomic detection represents a gap to understand viral diversity, prevalence, and ecology of bat-borne hantaviruses.
Objective: We aim to investigate and evaluate the presence and prevalence of bat-borne hantavirus in the Brazilian Atlantic Forest.

The objective of this study was to conduct a serological investigation of Schmallenberg virus (SBV) infection in cattle raised in the State of Alagoas. A total of 460 serum samples from the Agricultural Defense Agency of Alagoas (ADEAL) serum bank were analyzed. These samples were collected from unvaccinated cattle on 100 properties across 99 municipalities in Alagoas, representing the three mesoregions: Agreste, Leste, and Sertão.

Background: Severe Fever with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome (SFTS) is an emerging infectious disease with high mortality and severity rates. However, there is no clear treatment plan, specific effective antiviral drugs, or effective vaccine for SFTS. Recent studies have shown that the therapeutic effect of Ribavirin and other commonly used antiviral drugs such as Favipiravir (T-705), on SFTS is still controversial.

During viral infection, phagocytic cells participate in numerous immunological processes. A common approach to elucidate the specific contributions of phagocytic cells is through direct comparison of viral pathogenesis of phagocyte-depleted and phagocyte-intact animals. Clodronate liposomes are a versatile and simple means of depleting phagocytes in any animal model.

Oropouche fever, a mosquito- or midge-borne emerging zoonotic disease endemic to South and Central America, manifests as a dengue-like acute febrile illness with occasional occurrences of meningitis or meningoencephalitis. The causative agent, Oropouche virus (OROV), belongs to the genus Orthobunyavirus within the family Peribunyaviridae. Its tripartite negative-sense RNA genome comprises small (S), medium (M), and large (L) segments, encoding structural N, Gn/Gc, and L proteins, respectively.
