Femtosecond Laser Arcuate Keratotomy vs Toric Intraocular Lens Implantation in Cataract Surgery: A Randomized Clinical Trial.

JAMA Ophthalmol

January 2025

Eye Center, The Second Affiliated Hospital, School of Medicine, Zhejiang University, Zhejiang Provincial Key Laboratory of Ophthalmology, Zhejiang Provincial Clinical Research Center for Eye Diseases, Zhejiang Provincial Engineering Institute on Eye Diseases, Hangzhou, China.

Importance: After cataract surgery, postoperative residual astigmatism can influence a patient's visual quality and satisfaction. Finding ways to minimize this astigmatism is important.

Objective: To compare the clinical outcomes of femtosecond laser arcuate keratotomy (FSAK) and toric intraocular lens (TIOL) implantation for astigmatism correction in patients undergoing femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery.

Purpose: To evaluate the treatment outcomes of switching to intravitreal brolucizumab (IVBr) for neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) which did not achieve a dry macula even with 4- or 8-week intervals of intravitreal faricimab (IVF).

Study Design: Retrospective, interventional case series.

Methods: We retrospectively studied 33 eyes of 33 consecutive patients with nAMD who switched to IVBr from IVF, assessing best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), foveal thickness (FT), central choroidal thickness (CCT), and exudative status at baseline and after the switch.

Orthodontic Treatment of Anterior Open Bite Caused by a Car Accident.

Contemp Clin Dent

December 2024

Department of Orthodontics and Craniofacial Developmental Biology, Graduate School of Biomedical and Health Sciences, Hiroshima University, Hiroshima, Japan.

This article outlines the orthodontic treatment of a 21-year-old female patient with an open bite and temporomandibular joint disorders (TMDs) that developed after a severe car accident. The treatment plan utilized temporary anchorage devices (TADs) for upper molar intrusion to correct the open bite without resorting to orthognathic surgery. Over a period of 3 years, the treatment achieved a stable occlusion, normalized molar relationships, and improved esthetics.

Left Ventricular Hemodynamic Forces Changes in Fabry Disease: A Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Study.

J Magn Reson Imaging

January 2025

Department of Cardiology, West China Hospital, Sichuan University, Chengdu, Sichuan, China.

Background: Hemodynamic force (HDF) from cardiac MRI can indicate subclinical myocardial dysfunction, and help identify early cardiac changes in patients with Fabry disease (FD). The hemodynamic change in FD patients remains unclear.

Purpose: To explore HDF changes in FD and the potential of HDF measurements as diagnostic markers indicating early cardiac changes in FD.
