In this session, six invited speakers presented their innovative research to investigate the structure and dynamics of bacterial and archaeal supramolecular assembly systems. They explained their research from the perspective of bacterial genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry, biophysics, structural biology, cell biology, microscopy imaging, and molecular dynamics simulation. The session started with a section on the mechanism of pilus assembly in cyanobacteria. It then moved on to surface architecture of a nano-sized archaeon, bacterial flagellar protein export and assembly, flagella-driven motility in bacteria and other unique assembly systems. The session highlighted significant accomplishments in the field and also presented a variety of outstanding challenges.

Chikungunya virus (CHIKV) is an emerging, mosquito-borne arthritic alphavirus increasingly associated with severe neurological sequelae and long-term morbidity. However, there is limited understanding of the crucial host components involved in CHIKV replicase assembly complex formation, and thus virus replication and virulence-determining factors, within the central nervous system (CNS). Furthermore, the majority of CHIKV CNS studies focus on neuronal infection, even though astrocytes represent the main cerebral target.

Background: Lipid vesicles, especially those utilizing biocompatible materials like chitosan (CHIT), hold significant promise for enhancing the stability and release characteristics of drugs such as indomethacin (IND), effectively overcoming the drawbacks associated with conventional drug formulations.
Objectives: This study seeks to develop and characterize novel lipid vesicles composed of phosphatidylcholine and CHIT that encapsulate indomethacin (IND-ves), as well as to evaluate their in vitro hemocompatibility.
Methods: The systems encapsulating IND were prepared using a molecular droplet self-assembly technique, involving the dissolution of lipids, cholesterol, and indomethacin in ethanol, followed by sonication and the gradual incorporation of a CHIT solution to form stable vesicular structures.

The effectiveness of paclitaxel (PTX) in treating non-small-cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) is restricted by its poor pharmacokinetic profile and side effects. This limitation stems from the lack of a suitable delivery vector to efficiently target cancer cells. Therefore, there is a critical need to develop an efficient carrier for the optimised delivery of PTX in NSCLC therapy.

Doxorubicin (Dox) is an anticancer drug used in the treatment of a wide range of solid tumors; however, Dox causes systemic toxicity and irreversible cardiotoxicity. The design of a new nanosystem that allows for the control of Dox loading and delivery results is a powerful tool to control Dox release only in cancer cells. For this reason, supramolecular self-assembly was performed between a poly(amidoamine) (PAMAM) dendrimer decorated with four β-cyclodextrin (βCD) units (PAMAM-βCD) and an adamantane-hydrazone-doxorubicin (Ad-h-Dox) prodrug.

The curing process of hair-pin motor stator insulation is critical, as residual stress increases the risk of partial discharge and shortens a motor's lifespan. However, studies on the stress-induced defects during insulation varnish curing remain limited. This research integrates three-dimensional numerical simulations and experimental analysis to develop a curing model based on unsaturated polyester imide resin, aiming to explore the mechanisms of residual stress formation and optimization strategies.
