This editorial celebrates the 80th birthday of Distinguished Professor Laszlo Zaborszky, co-founder of Brain Structure and Function, and reflects on his monumental contributions to neuroscience, particularly his pioneering work on the cholinergic basal forebrain. Professor Zaborszky's research has reshaped our understanding of this brain region's organization and function, uncovering its critical role in cognitive processes such as learning, memory, and attention. His findings have challenged longstanding assumptions, demonstrating that the cholinergic projections to the cortex are highly organized, with implications for neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's.

In 2024, we celebrate the 100th anniversary of Willem Einthoven receiving the Nobel Prize for his discovery of the mechanism of the electrocardiogram. Building on Einthoven's legacy, electrocardiography allows the monitoring of cardiac bioelectricity through solutions to the so-called forward and inverse problems. These solutions link local cardiac electrical signals with the morphology of the electrocardiogram, offering a reversible connection between the heart's electrical activity and its representation on the body surface.

On applying a small bias force, nonequilibrium systems may respond in paradoxical ways such as with giant negative mobility (GNM)-a large net drift opposite to the applied bias, or giant positive mobility (GPM)-an anomalously large drift in the same direction as the applied bias. Such behaviors have been extensively studied in idealized models of externally driven passive inertial particles. Here, we consider a minimal model of a memory-driven active particle inspired from experiments with walking and superwalking droplets, whose equation of motion maps to the celebrated Lorenz system.

Leadership positions with enormous responsibilities are challenging; at times leaders may feel isolated or lonely. A mastermind team is a small group of peer mentors or a personal board of directors, who meet on a recurring basis to share ideas for feedback, groupsource solutions, and to celebrate/commiserate on events. Joining a mastermind team helps leaders receive psychological support, encouragement, inspiration, suggestions for solving problems, and resources to manage challenges.

Quantum theory promises computational speed-ups over classical approaches. The celebrated Gottesman-Knill Theorem implies that the full power of quantum computation resides in the specific resource of "magic" states-the secret sauce to establish universal quantum computation. However, it is still questionable whether magic indeed brings the believed quantum advantage, ridding unproven complexity assumptions or black-box oracles.
