Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a disease that causes inflammation of joints, resulting in pain and swelling. Reduced barometric pressure induces painful symptom of RA, but there is no appropriate animal model and pharmacological evaluation. Keishinieppiittokajutsubu (KNEIJB), a Kampo medicine used to treat RA; however, its mechanism of action is not clear. Here, we found that KNEIJB suppressed the low barometric pressure (LP)-induced pain response in CFA-induced arthritic model rats. Furthermore, we found that KNEIJB reduced plasma IL-6 levels. These results suggest that KNEIJB might be beneficial in the treatment of RA or some other arthralgia induced by LP.

The study of spatiotemporal variation and driving forces of the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) is conducive to regional ecosystem protection and natural resource management. Based on the 1982-2022 GIMMS NDVI data and 26 influencing variables, by using the Theil-Sen median slope analysis, Mann-Kendall (M - K) test method and GeoDetector model, we analyzed the spatial and temporal characteristics of vegetation cover and the driving factors of its spatial differentiation in the northern foothills of the Yinshan Mountains in Inner Mongolia. As more women engage in high-altitude activities, understanding how ovarian hormone fluctuations affect their cardiorespiratory system is essential for optimizing acclimatization to these environments. This study investigates the effects of menstrual cycle (MC) phases on physiological responses at rest, during and after submaximal exercise, at high-altitude (barometric pressure 509 ± 6 mmHg; partial pressure of inspired oxygen 96 ± 1 mmHg; ambient temperature 21 ± 2 °C and relative humidity 27 ± 4%) in 16 eumenorrheic women. Gas exchange, hemodynamic responses, heart rate variability and heart rate recovery (HRR) were monitored at low altitude, and then at 3375 m on the Mont Blanc (following nocturnal exposure) during both the early-follicular (EF) and mid-luteal (ML) phases.

The proper monitoring of heat and meteorological variables is essential for the well-being of residents of metropolitan areas.
