is primarily cultivated in Japan, China, and South Korea. Although mass mortality of scallops has been occurring recently, likely caused by high temperatures or infectious diseases, the underlying cause remains unclear. Little is known regarding the viral diseases affecting them. Therefore, we explored DNA virus diversity in the mid-gut gland of and compared it with that of seawater. was cultivated at depths below 5 m from the sea surface in the coastal waters of South Korea and sampled from May to August 2018. Different DNA viral communities were observed in both and seawater. In , prevalent groups included (7%), (6%), and (5%). Conversely, the dominant groups in seawater were (20%), (12%), and (10%). We identified -specific viral communities and potentially infectious viruses, such as and Abalone herpesvirus Victoria/AUS/2009. Furthermore, acts as a reservoir for various viruses, which impact microbial community dynamics and disease transmission in marine ecosystems. Understanding these viral communities is crucial to protecting and restoring coastal ecosystems by highlighting their role in the transmission of potential avian- and bivalve-specific viruses.

Black band disease (BBD) is one of the most prevalent diseases causing significant destruction of coral reefs. Coral reefs acquire this deadly disease from bacteria in the microbiome community, the composition of which is highly affected by the environmental temperature. The limited availability of historical data has resulted in the ongoing debate regarding the short-term effects of thermal discharge from nuclear power plants (NPPs) on microbial communities, including both prokaryotes and microeukaryotes. This study focused on the co-occurrence patterns, assembly processes, and community functions in the eutrophic coastal waters of Sanmen Bay (SMB) before and after NPP operation. Gammaproteobacteria and Alphaproteobacteria were the dominant prokaryotic taxa, while Dinoflagellates consistently maintained their prevalence in SMB.
