Background: The resurgence of pertussis in China underscores the urgency of active surveillance to complement the passive surveillance system.
Methods: Active surveillance for pertussis was conducted from 1 June 2021 to 31 May 2022, at Yiwu, Zhejiang province of China. Patients with suspected pertussis were further confirmed as pertussis cases by PCR and culture. The incidence rate of pertussis in the community was estimated.
Results: The overall estimated incidence of pertussis was 108.3 per 100,000 (95% CrI: 91.7-126.4). Children aged 4-5 years had the highest incidence (1154.3 per 100,000 [95% CrI: 817.4-1553.5]), followed by infants aged 1 year (836.1 per 100,000 [95% CrI: 434.0-1308.8]). Infants aged 0-4 months had the highest hospitalization rate among the pertussis patients (>50.0%). Although the incidence was low in elderly aged ≥ 60 years, the hospitalization rate was rather high (6.7%).
Conclusion: Active surveillance in this study revealed a higher burden of pertussis in Yiwu, China, compared to passive surveillance. Children aged 4-5 years are the dominant population group at risk of pertussis. Infants aged ≤ 4 months are the most vulnerable pertussis patients that require hospitalization treatment. Our results highlight the urgency of large-scale active surveillance of pertussis in China.

Lymphatic muscle cells (LMCs) within the wall of collecting lymphatic vessels exhibit tonic and autonomous phasic contractions, which drive active lymph transport to maintain tissue-fluid homeostasis and support immune surveillance. Damage to LMCs disrupts lymphatic function and is related to various diseases. Despite their importance, knowledge of the gene transcriptional signatures in LMCs and how they relate to lymphatic function in normal and disease contexts is largely missing.

Purpose: We examined associations between device-assessed and parent-reported physical activity with mental health indicators among children and youth with disabilities.
Method: Physical activity and mental health data were collected from a larger national surveillance study of physical activity in children and youth with disabilities in Canada. A total of 122 children and youth with disabilities (mean age = 10 y; 80% boys, 57% with developmental disability) wore a Fitbit for 28 days to measure their daily steps.

High workloads and extended work shift greatly limit the opportunities for medical residents to adopt a healthy lifestyle by practicing regular physical exercise. Using data from the Public Health Residents' Anonymous Survey in Italy (PHRASI), this research assessed the associations between physical activity levels and sedentary behavior, well-being, and self-rated health among Italian public health residents (PHRs) during the COVID-19 pandemic. Employing a cross-sectional design, this study utilized the International Physical Activity Questionnaire, the WHO-5 Well-being Index, and the single-item self-rated health to measure physical activity, sedentary behavior, self-rated health, and well-being among PHRs.

serovar Hvittingfoss, a member of the non-typhoidal group, is an important foodborne serovar most frequently identified in regions (Australia, Belgium, and the United States) with active surveillance systems. This serovar has been implicated in outbreaks of foodborne illness. Soft cheese, crab cocktail, beef, and rock melon are commonly involved in these outbreaks.

Objective: The aim of our study was to describe and analyze HAI incidence, etiology and risk factors in pediatric intensive care unit (ICU).
Background: Intensive care patients are at high risk of hospital-acquired infections (HAI) due to their underlying diseases and exposure to invasive devices.
Methods: The study group consisted of patients admitted to children's hospital ICU for more than 2 days during a six-month period (267 patients, 1570 patient-days).
