Insights into Alkaline Phosphatase Anti-Inflammatory Mechanisms.

Background: The endogenous ecto-enzyme and exogenously administered alkaline phosphatase (ALP) have been evidenced to significantly attenuate inflammatory conditions, including Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4)-related signaling and cytokine overexpression, barrier tissue dysfunction and oxidative stress, and metabolic syndrome and insulin resistance, in experimental models of colitis, liver failure, and renal and cardiac ischemia-reperfusion injury. This suggests multiple mechanisms of ALP anti-inflammatory action that remain to be fully elucidated.

Methods: Recent studies have contributed to a deeper comprehension of the role played by ALP in immune metabolism. This review outlines the established effects of ALP on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced inflammation, including the neutralization of LPS and the modulation of purinergic signaling.

Results: The additional mechanisms of anti-inflammatory activity of ALP observed in different pathologies are proposed.

Conclusions: The anti-inflammatory pathways of ALP may include a scavenger receptor (CD36)-mediated activation of β-oxidation and oxidative phosphorylation, caveolin-dependent endocytosis, and selective autophagy-dependent degradation.

The Atlantic Forest broad-snouted caiman (Caiman latirostris) inhabits regions within one of the world's most ecologically diverse ecosystems, yet few studies have explored the relationship between body condition, blood biochemistry, and environmental factors in the wild. Our study investigated the effects of sex, ontogeny, habitat, and environmental variables on the body condition and blood biochemistry of free-ranging caimans from the state of Alagoas, Northeast Brazil. From 2020 to 2022, we captured 75 caimans across three sites in different seasons.

Alveolar ridge loss presents difficulties for implant placement and stability. To address this, alveolar ridge preservation (ARP) is required to maintain bone and avoid the need for ridge augmentation using socket grafting. Curcumin, as an antioxidant agent, has been proposed as a potential treatment for nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). The aim of the current systematic review and meta-analysis was to summarize earlier findings regarding the effect of curcumin supplementation on liver enzymes and ALP in NAFLD patients. All studies published up to November 18, 2022, were searched through the PubMed, SCOPUS, and Web of Science databases to collect all randomized clinical trials (RCTs) on NAFLD patients in which curcumin was used as a treatment.
