Introduction: Penicillins and other beta-lactam antibiotics are used in greater than one-third of pregnant women as treatment for Group B Streptococcus colonization and prophylaxis for Caesarean sections. Penicillin allergy labels have been associated with increased morbidity in the pregnant population, and penicillin allergy evaluation during pregnancy is now recognized as safe and effective. Yet, demographic characteristics associated with having a penicillin allergy label during pregnancy have not been studied.

Background/objectives: Stimulated cord blood mononuclear cell (CBMC) cytokine responses were previously shown to predict the risk of childhood atopic disease. Iron deficiency (ID) at birth may also program atopic disease. Males are at a higher risk of pediatric atopic disease, but it is not known whether congenital ID impacts CBMC immune responses differentially by sex.

Food allergy affects 1%-10% of children under five worldwide, with genetic and early-life factors playing a primary role. Reported factors include a family history of allergic diseases, personal atopic dermatitis, cesarean section, dietary restrictions during pregnancy and lactation, and the timing of introducing solid foods. This study was aimed at identifying various factors associated with food allergy and evaluate each food allergy's clinical features.
