The Comarca Lagunera is one of Mexico's most important productive areas. Its main economic activities are livestock, agriculture, and the processing industry. A wide variety of industries emit wastes that are considered highly toxic environmental pollutants, which have strong negative impacts on public health. The objective of this work was to determine the lead concentrations present in tissues of pigeons () belonging to the urban area of the Comarca Lagunera, Mexico. Specimens were collected from the localities that comprise the region and the tissue extracted; the organs were dried, calcined, and diluted in an acidic HCl solution. Lead concentrations were obtained by atomic absorption spectrometry using the graphite furnace technique. The results demonstrate the presence of lead in all the tissues analyzed, with maximum concentrations of 191.14 mg/kg and minimum concentrations of 0.86 mg/kg, the area with the highest average concentration being Torreón, Coahuila ( = 0.030). The organ with the highest concentration was the bone ( = 0.000). Evidence of lead poisoning is presented in tissues in the Comarca Lagunera, thus demonstrating the presence of this contaminant and the ability of these pigeons to function as bioindicators of environmental contamination.

The environment in which an animal is situated can have a profound impact on its health, welfare, and productivity. This phenomenon is particularly evident in the case of dairy cattle, then, in order to quantify the impact of ambient temperature (°C) and the relative humidity (%) on dairy cattle, the temperature-humidity index (THI) is employed as a metric. This indicator enables the practical estimation of the stress imposed on cattle by ambient temperature and humidity.

Leg torsion and distal asymmetry (LTDA) among cows reared on intensive farms in the Comarca Lagunera region of northern Mexico may be indicative of underlying health concerns. To ascertain whether the incidence of LTDA is associated with trough measurements and with productive, reproductive, and disease variables, the prevalence of LTDA was determined in lactating dairy cows. The data were derived from two intensive dairy farms in northern Mexico (G60: 2043 cows in 13 pens with 142.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examines how short-term supplementation with Ashwagandha (WS) affects the reproductive quality and behavior of Black Belly rams fed a diet of dairy cow leftovers in northern Mexico.* -
  • Twenty rams were divided into three groups: a control group with no supplements, a low supplement group, and a high supplement group, over a 47-day experimental period.* -
  • Results showed improvements in sexual behavior, sperm volume, and certain blood parameters in the WS-supplemented rams, suggesting that using dairy cow feed leftovers in livestock can enhance reproduction in sheep.*

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to assess the bacterial diversity and potential health risks in stray dogs with tick infestations in northern Mexico by analyzing their blood samples for harmful bacteria.
  • - Researchers collected blood from 12 dogs, extracted DNA, and used next-generation sequencing to identify 620 bacterial species, including 64 with possible pathogenic or zoonotic risks.
  • - Findings highlight the significance of stray dogs as potential carriers of tick-borne and other zoonotic diseases, emphasizing the importance of advanced molecular techniques for understanding these risks.
