Background/objectives: Hypertension exerts negative effects on the vasculature representing a key risk factor for cardiovascular disorders, cerebral and Cerebral Small Vessel Disease (CSVD).

Methods: An extensive research in the literature was implemented in order to elucidate the role of hypertension in the pathogenesis of CSVD.

Results: Hypertension-mediated vascular dysfunction and chronic cerebral hypoperfusion are closely linked to CSVD. CSVD encompasses a wide range of lesions depicted on brain Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) or Computed Tomography (CT) scans. The presenting symptoms and clinical course are highly variable, as a significant proportion of patients remain asymptomatic. Nevertheless, CSVD is associated with an increased risk of stroke, dementia and mobility disorders. Various randomised controlled trials have been implemented trying to shed light on the effect of vascular risk-modifying agents and lifestyle interventions on the prevention and treatment of small vessel disease.

Conclusions: Hypertension has a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of CSVD. However, further research is required for a better understanding of the relationship between blood pressure levels and CSVD progression.

Aneurysmal rupture in microscopic polyangiitis: a case-based review.

Clin Rheumatol

January 2025

Department of Medical Laboratory Science, Faculty of Health Sciences, Hokkaido University, Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan.

Microscopic polyangiitis (MPA) affects small and medium vessel, which sometimes leads to arterial aneurysms. In English database, only 15 reports refer to ruptured aneurysms in MPA. We experienced a fatal case with MPA who developed multiple visceral aneurysms, resulting in rupture of the hepatic aneurysm.

Synergistic Enhancement of Ligand & Cluster Connectivity to Construct Highly Stable Fluorescein-Based MOFs with Thickened Channel Walls for Boosting Photocatalytic Activity.

Fabricating visible-light-responsive metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with high stability and effective catalytic functionality remains a long-term pursuit yet a great challenge. Herein, a strategy of increasing ligand and cluster connectivity is developed to construct highly stable fluorescein MOFs, La-CFL, presenting a new (4,8)-connected topological structure compared to Cd-FL constructed using 6-connected dinuclear clusters and 3-connected tritopic ligands. La(CFL) containers like Chinese "Ritual Wine Vessels (Jue)" resemble linear arrangements interconnected by the [La(COO)] clusters.

Objectives: To explore interrelations between cognitive, physical, affective, and daily functioning, quality of life and white matter hyperintensities (WMH) in a geriatric memory clinic sample.

Method: Participants received brain imaging, comprehensive geriatric assessment and neuropsychological evaluation including measurements of cognitive, physical, affective, and daily functioning and health-related quality of life. Data was analyzed using multiple linear regressions and network analysis using (moderated) mixed graphical models.

Cerebral autosomal dominant arteriopathy with subcortical infarcts and leukoencephalopathy CADASIL) is a rare inherited disorder in which thickening of the walls of small and medium-sized blood vessels blocks blood flow to the brain. Diagnosis of CADASIL is based on clinical presentation, neuroimaging findings, and genetic predisposition. This disease is uncommon in children; typically, symptoms manifest in individuals between the ages of 20 and 40, though some may exhibit symptoms later in life.

Background: The technical challenges associated with the removal of small nodules in challenging locations rather than peripheral locations remain unaddressed. We sought to illustrate the parenchymal-sparing surgical approach employed for deep interlobar lung cancer with fused fissures (DILCFFs).

Methods: A retrospective review of 43 patients with cT1N0M0 DILCFFs from January 2013 through December 2022 was performed.
