This study investigated the effects of low doses of alcohol, which are acceptable for driving a car, on inhibitory control and neural processing using the stop-signal task (SST) in 17 healthy right-handed social drinkers. The study employed simultaneous functional magnetic resonance imaging and electromyography (EMG) recordings to assess behavioral and neural responses under conditions of low-dose alcohol (breath-alcohol concentration of 0.15 mg/L) and placebo.

In recent years, the assessment of and support for the safety of driving for people with higher brain dysfunction to allow them to resume car driving have become issues to be addressed in Japan. It is difficult to determine whether or not people with higher brain dysfunction may safely resume car driving; in addition, methods of supporting this resumption have not been established. To support people with higher brain dysfunction and allow them to live at home in areas where public means of transportation may be insufficient, initiatives promoting the resumption of car driving are necessary in healthcare sectors, including day rehabilitation facilities.

Background: A 57-year-old right-handed man was admitted to the Treviso Memory Clinic due to the presence of memory forgetfulness, repetition of the same questions, episodes of confusion, initial difficulties in performing complex tasks and easy distraction over the past two years, as well as recurrent and never-happened-before car accidents.
Objective: We report a peculiar case of an early onset Alzheimer's disease (AD) with an unusual symptomatology, apparently not fitting in any of the categorized atypical forms of AD nor being representative of a typical amnestic AD.
Methods: The patient underwent a neuropsychological, structural, and metabolic cerebral evaluation by MRI and F-FDG PET, together with the search for cerebral amyloid (amyloid PET), a genetic testing for dementia related genes and the dosage of CSF protein biomarkers of neurodegenerative conditions.
