To investigate the influence of nanoholes on Chern insulators (CIs), we propose a porous Haldane model that considers the nearest-neighbor (NN) hoppings and next-NN (NNN) hoppings with staggered magnetic fluxes. This model supports multiple topological phases with different filling factors. At 2/5 filling, CI phases withC=±1, = 2,C=±3,C=±4and higher-order topological insulator (HOTI) appear. At 9/20 filling, CI withC=±1, = 2, = 3, and HOTI phases are obtained. At half-filling, this model exhibits CI withC=±1, = 2, andC=-3and HOTI phases. Unlike conventional HOTIs, these HOTI phases host gapless edge states and robust corner states which are characterized by a quantized quadrupole. Additionally, there is a topological flat band (TFB) with a flatness ratio about 13 with the NN and NNN hoppings. Based on the TFB model, we further investigate aν=1/2fractional CI state with hard-core bosons filling.

We investigate the phase diagram of a two-dimensional magnetic topological system in the parameter space of uncorrelated Anderson disorder and Zeeman splitting energy. In the absence of disorder, the system undergoes the phases of higher-order topological insulators (HOTIs), Chern insulators (CIs) with Chern numbers = 2 and = 1, and band insulators successively with enhancing Zeeman energy. The phase boundary separating these phases is found to be strongly deformed by the disorder, which leads to several topological Anderson insulators.

We theoretically construct a higher-order topological insulator (HOTI) on a Brillouin real projective plane enabled by momentum-space nonsymmorphic (k-NS) symmetries from synthetic gauge fields. Two anicommutative k-NS glide reflections appear in a checkerboard Z_{2} flux model, impose nonsymmorphic constraints on Berry curvature, and quantize bulk and Wannier-sector polarization nonlocally across different momenta. The model's bulk exhibits an isotropic quadrupole phase diagram, where the transition appears intrinsically from bulk gap closure.

Biomolecular research traditionally revolves around comprehending the mechanisms through which peptides or proteins facilitate specific functions, often driven by their relevance to clinical ailments. This conventional approach assumes that unraveling mechanisms is a prerequisite for wielding control over functionality, which stands as the ultimate research goal. However, an alternative perspective emerges from physics-based inverse design, shifting the focus from mechanisms to the direct acquisition of functional control strategies.

Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever orthonairovirus (CCHFV) is a tick-borne, risk group 4 pathogen that often causes a severe haemorrhagic disease in humans (CCHF) with high case fatality rates. The virus is believed to be maintained in a tick-vertebrate-tick ecological cycle involving numerous wild and domestic animal species; however the biology of CCHFV infection in these animals remains poorly understood. Here, we experimentally infect domestic sheep with CCHFV Kosovo Hoti, a clinical isolate representing high pathogenicity to humans and increasingly utilized in current research.
