Background: In forensics, the term overkill refers to the modus operandi of the offender that goes beyond the immediate need to kill the victim, but not beyond the borders of cruelty. The killer - unable to stop his murderous impulse - seems to want to make sure the victim is dead, repeatedly hitting the corpse. From a forensic point of view, this type of murder is characterized by bloody crime scenes and the discovery of brutal wounds on the victim's body.
Aims: Through an examination of suggestive cases, we aim to identify and analyse the forensic aspects of overkill. The study aims to provide a framework of the findings in this type of murder to guide forensic assessment and allow differential diagnosis with others type of homicide.
Methods: In our study, we examined all the murders occurred in Rome between 1999 to 2015, closed with a final sentence and/or archived. We have therefore selected 18 cases where the crime has degenerated into overkill, because characterized by repeated and several signs of aggression on the body of the victim. For each case, there were analyzed the crime scenes and there were performed complete autopsies.
Results: Only in one case the killer was a woman. In most cases victim and killer were partners. As for the motive, in 38.8% of the cases there was a passionate motive, followed by a neighborhood problem (22.2%) and money motive (17%). The sharps were the most used weapons; only in two cases firearms were used. The 39% of our cases had < 10 wounds on the victim's body; only in one case were more than 40 wounds.

Objective: To investigate the frequency of epileptiform discharges associated with self-limited focal epilepsy (EDSelFEC) in children who have undergone a hemispherotomy and to evaluate whether patients with coexistence of EDSelFEC and structural hemispheric epilepsies differ from patients without coexistence of EDSelFEC and whether there are differences between the two groups with regard to preoperative management and postoperative outcome.
Methods: Data on 131 children who underwent a hemispherotomy between January 1999 and January 2015 were retrieved from the Epilepsy center's epilepsy surgery database. Children with EDSelFEC were compared with children without EDSelFEC with respect to epileptogenic hemispheric pathology, family history, age at epilepsy onset, timing of surgery, lesion laterality, preoperative cognitive function, response to sodium channel blocker antiepileptic medication, and surgical outcome.

Objective: Splenectomy is regularly performed in total and distal pancreatectomy due to technical reasons, lymph node dissection and radicality of the operation. However, the spleen serves as an important organ for competent immune function, and its removal is associated with an increased incidence of cancer and a worse outcome in some cancer entities (Haematologica 99:392-398, 2014; Dis Colon Rectum 51:213-217, 2008; Dis Esophagus 21:334-339, 2008). The impact of splenectomy in pancreatic cancer is not fully resolved (J Am Coll Surg 188:516-521, 1999; J Surg Oncol 119:784-793, 2019).

Background: Ovarian cancer survival in low- and middle-income countries is lower than in high-income countries, due to disparities in healthcare access and socioeconomic factors. This study aimed to describe trends in ovarian cancer survival in Sergipe, Northeast Brazil, by histological group.
Methods: We analysed data on 948 women aged 15-99 years diagnosed with a cancer of the ovary between 1996 and 2017, in Sergipe, Brazil.
