Decision-making capacity in pediatric health care is crucial for upholding ethical practices and protecting patient autonomy. It involves a patient's ability to understand the benefits, risks, and alternatives of a proposed treatment or intervention, demonstrate understanding, appreciate the consequences, reason clearly, and communicate their wishes. Informed consent and assent are essential concepts in pediatric decision-making, ensuring that patients, including children, clearly understand their treatment options, and voluntarily agree to them. The involvement of children in medical decisions should be proportional to their developmental stage, with adolescents having more autonomy in health care decisions.

Background: Paediatric emergency and critical care require skilled nurses, but they often face a lack of motivation during continuing professional development. Motivation-based, engaging activities in training programmes are essential to sustain interest and improve learning outcomes in these high-stress environments.

Aim: This study aims to develop, implement and evaluate the effectiveness of a Paediatric Emergency Course (PEC) using the ARCS (Attention, Relevance, Confidence, Satisfaction) Motivational Design Model to equip nurses with the knowledge and skills needed to manage paediatric patients in emergency and critical care settings.

The art of clinical negotiation is an important, yet underappreciated aspect of medicine. Key components of negotiation include the need to consider principles over personalities, to explore all options before deciding on the best course, to realize if consensus cannot be achieved then compromise may still be possible, to work from evidence to incorporate contextual factors, and to stay evidence based. These principles can be helpful in many settings, including contract negotiation, drug pricing, and research.

Background/aims: Active inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) increases the risk of pregnancy complications and contraceptive side effects, and contraceptive use may impact the clinical course of IBD. Although young people are at elevated risk for unintended pregnancy, those with IBD receive minimal disease-specific contraceptive guidance. We characterized perspectives and preferences on contraception and reproductive health counseling from young women with IBD.
