Purpose: We determine the impact of the increased risk of war resulting from the inter-Korean tensions of 2016, which culminated in two nuclear tests by North Korea, on the health of South Korean adolescents. Our health indicators are mental symptoms of depression and aggression, but also physical symptoms such as headaches and fever.
Method: We use representative data from the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey (KCYPS) for the Seoul Capital Area in 2014, 2015 and 2016 (N = 1745). In our regression analysis, we apply a difference-in-differences approach and use adolescents living near the border with North Korea in 2016 as the treatment group.
Results: We find that adolescents residing in the border regions with North Korea during the crisis year 2016 had 3.67 percent more depressive and 5.52 percent more aggressive symptoms, but also more physical problems such as headaches (6.82 percent) and fever (5.44 percent), findings that are more pronounced for females.
Discussion: We call on policymakers to keep the health of adolescents, especially young women, in mind during times of crisis. Schools in geopolitically tense areas can help build resilience.

Background: Yogurt has emerged as an essential nutritional food in contemporary diets, and the development of new multi-component yogurt formulations has become a focal point of current research.
Objective: In this study, the effects of fermentation compounds and the addition of sugar, soy milk on the quality and probiotic activity of milk-soy mixed yogurt were studied to determine the optimal formation of mixed yogurt.
Methods: The various fermentation compounds (YO-MIX 883, Lactobacillus Casei complex starter cultures, Lactobacillus Paracasei compound starter cultures), different concentrations of milk-soy additions (0, 25, 50, 75, 100%) and sugar (2, 4, 6, 8%) were tested within each experimental group, and the pH, appropriate acidity, and total viable bacterial count of the fermented milk-soy mixed yogurt were determined throughout the fermentation and refrigeration processes.

Two-dimensional molybdenum ditelluride (2D MoTe) is an interesting material for artificial synapses due to its unique electronic properties and phase tunability in different polymorphs 2H/1T'. However, the growth of stable and large-scale 2D MoTe on a CMOS-compatible Si/SiO substrate remains challenging because of the high growth temperature and impurity-involved transfer process. We developed a large-scale MoTe film on a Si/SiO wafer by simple sputtering followed by lithium-ion intercalation and applied it to artificial synaptic devices.

Nowadays, consent to use donor bodies for medical education and research is obtained from the body donors and their families before the donation. Recently, the International Federation of Associations of Anatomists (IFAA) published guidelines that could restrict the appearance of cadaveric images in commercial anatomical resources such as textbooks and other educational products. These guidelines state that the donor must expressly consent to using such images for this purpose.

Genome-wide association studies have identified approximately 200 genetic risk loci for breast cancer, but the causal variants and target genes are mostly unknown. We sought to fine-map all known breast cancer risk loci using genome-wide association study data from 172,737 female breast cancer cases and 242,009 controls of African, Asian and European ancestry. We identified 332 independent association signals for breast cancer risk, including 131 signals not reported previously, and for 50 of them, we narrowed the credible causal variants down to a single variant.

Introduction: The unique natural and social environments of East Asia may shape the characteristics of fungal skin diseases. However, there is a notable absence of thorough comparative analyses on this subject.
Methods: This research undertook a comprehensive analysis of the epidemiology and disease burden of fungal dermatoses across five East Asian countries (China, Japan, Republic of Korea, Democratic People's Republic of Korea and Mongolia) via the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) database from 1990 to 2021.
