Apoptosis is a type of programmed cell death which can be induced by thyroid hormone in pituitary and other cell models. This process is characterized by several biochemical changes, including modifications in plasma membrane lipid composition, mitochondrial membrane dysfunction, and DNA fragmentation, among others. These cellular alterations can be measured using western blotting and flow cytometry techniques. Here we describe the method to detect cleavage of poly-ADP ribose polymerase by western blotting, as well as different flow cytometry-based methods to quantify the sub-G1 hypodiploid cell population, the redistribution of phosphatidylserine to the outer leaflet of plasma membrane, and the loss of the mitochondrial inner membrane potential.

Background: Thyroid carcinoma (THCA) is the most common cancer of the endocrine system. Natural killer (NK) cell play an important role in tumor immune surveillance. The aim of this study was to explore the possible molecular mechanisms involved in NK cell in THCA to help the management and treatment of the disease.

Geriatric Health Research Center, Department of Physiology, School of Medicine, Birjand University of Medical Sciences, Birjand, Iran.

Background: Among environmental factors, infectious agents, including , can act as triggers for autoimmune thyroid diseases. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the correlation between autoimmune Hashimoto's thyroiditis with infection.

Methods: The participants in this case-control study were 74 individuals 17-62 years who were divided into two groups, including 38 diagnosed Hashimoto's thyroiditis patients from an outpatient clinic of endocrinology and 36 apparently healthy individuals that were selected from family members of cases group age-matched and sex-matched.

Objective: Extant imaging methods used for the proper identification of the parathyroid glands to prevent post-operative hypothyroidism associated with the resection of differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) are limited by factors such as low specificity, high cost, and technical complexity. This study, therefore, sought to investigate the efficacy of the immunocolloidal gold strip method combined with nanocarbon negative imaging tracing technology for parathyroid gland imaging during radical resection of DTC in elderly patients.

Methods: A total of 100 elderly patients with DTC were enrolled and randomly divided into two groups: the control group and the observation group.

Background: Thyroid hormone deficiencies can disrupt organ functions, significantly impacting the cardiovascular system. Recently, the effects of thyroid hormones on the heart have garnered increased attention. However, most studies are conducted on humans using clinical data, while cellular-level and experimental studies remain limited.

Social hierarchies are a common form of social organization across species. Although hierarchies are largely stable across time, animals may socially ascend or descend within hierarchies depending on environmental and social challenges. Here, we develop a novel paradigm to study social ascent and descent within male CD-1 mouse social hierarchies.
