Aim: Computed tomography (CT)-derived extracellular volume fraction (ECV) is a non-invasive method to quantify myocardial fibrosis. Evaluating CT-ECV during aortic valve replacement (AVR) planning CT in severe aortic stenosis (AS) may aid prognostic stratification. This meta-analysis evaluated the prognostic significance of CT-ECV in severe AS necessitating AVR.

From the Division of Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery at the Women and Infants Hospital, Providence, RI.
Importance: There are limited data to guide practices to reduce surgical site infections following sacral neuromodulation; however, many surgeons prescribe prophylactic postoperative antibiotics after device implantation.
Objective: The aim of the study was to compare the proportion of patients with sacral neuromodulation device-associated surgical site infections after use of prophylactic postoperative antibiotics versus none.
Study Design: This was a multicenter retrospective cohort study of patients undergoing sacral neuromodulation device implantation at 11 institutions from January 2014 to December 2023, comparing outcomes in patients who did versus did not receive prophylactic postoperative antibiotic treatment.

Purpose: The research investigates the efficacy of hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) treatment in facilitating the development of compact water droplets on the rear surface of synthetic lenses with capsule imperfections during the process of fluid-air exchange.
Method: This study examined four patients with intraocular lens (IOL) implants and posterior capsule defects who experienced the formation of dense water droplets on the posterior surface following fluid-air exchange. When this occurrence obstructs fundus visualization during surgery, it is recommended to suspend the surgical procedure.

Background: Chronic hard-to-heal wounds, such as diabetic foot ulcers, venous leg ulcers, and pressure ulcers, present significant safety concerns, patient burdens, and challenges to health care systems globally.
Objective: To review the mechanism of action and clinical function of bromelain-based enzymatic debridement (BBD) in the context of wound care, focusing on the mechanism of action of BBD and its formulation for chronic wounds in particular.
Methods: A literature review was conducted to assess both bromelain's mechanism of action as well as clinical and preclinical studies on the use of BBD, searching the PubMed and Google Scholar databases for articles published between November 1992 and July 2024.

Lipomas are benign soft tissue tumors composed of mature adipocytes, commonly found in subcutaneous tissues. Despite their prevalence in various body regions, they are relatively rare in the oral and maxillofacial regions. This study retrospectively analyzed the clinical and imaging characteristics, as well as the treatment outcomes of 57 patients diagnosed with lipoma.
