The transition of Freud's into its first English language incarnation as , translated by A.A. Brill, took several years to effect, the process being beset with conceptual, practical, legal, and political obstacles. Anxieties over possible obscenity charges in Britain led to novel forms of censorship being applied to the first edition by its London publisher in 1913, while issues relating to the politics of translation and local British efforts to standardise psychoanalytic nomenclature would bedevil the text over its first two decades. In the context of the launch of the (), the present paper reveals these earlier issues for the first time. Having then considered the book's reception in both Britain and the United States, its sales and varying editions, the paper concludes with a discussion of the covert and contentious reediting of the work's third English edition, published in 1933. The shadow of this history inevitably falls on the .

Nitroglycerin is a potent vasodilator in clinical use since the late 1800s. It functions as a prodrug that is bioactivated by formation of an enzyme-based thionitrate, E-Cys-NO. This intermediate reportedly decomposes to release NO and NO but their relative yields remain controversial.

Can focal brain lesions, such as those caused by stroke, disrupt critical brain dynamics? What biological mechanisms drive its recovery? In a recent study, we showed that focal lesions generate a sub-critical state that recovers over time in parallel with behavior (Rocha et al., Nat. Commun.

The field of the with no lysine kinases (WNKs) regulation of the thiazide-sensitive NaCl cotransporter (NCC) began at the start of the century with the discovery that mutations in two members of the family, WNK1 and WNK4, resulted in a condition known as Familiar Hyperkalemic Hypertension (FHHt). Since FHHt is the mirror image of Gitelman's syndrome that is caused by inactivating mutations of the SLC12A3 gene encoding NCC, it was expected that WNKs modulated NCC activity and that the increased function of the cotransporter is the pathophysiological mechanism of FFHt. This turned out to be the case.
