We propose and demonstrate what we believe to be a novel photonic sampling technique using an agile optical frequency comb generator achieving flexible sampling frequencies. Several comb lines are carved into sampling pulses which are then time-dispersed along a single-mode optical fiber as a function of the electronically adjusted comb line spacing and the number of comb lines selected. Successful sampling and demodulation of QAM signals up to a 17 GHz carrier frequency with a sampling rate of up to 50 GSa/s have been demonstrated. A minimum of 1.5% EVM at 3 GHz and a maximum 4.4 bits (ENOB) at 2.1 GHz were also measured.

The anti-Stokes emission of photon upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) facilitates their use as labels for ultrasensitive detection in biological samples as infrared excitation does not induce autofluorescence at visible wavelengths. The detection of extremely low-abundance analytes, however, remains challenging as it is impossible to completely avoid nonspecific binding of label conjugates. To overcome this limitation, we developed a novel hybridization complex transfer technique using UCNP labels to detect short nucleic acids directly without target amplification.

Background And Purpose: Few studies have examined the factors associated with xerostomia during proton and carbon ion radiotherapy for head and neck cancer (HNC), which are reported to have fewer toxic effects compared to traditional photon-based radiotherapy. This study aims to evaluate the performance of machine learning approaches in predicting grade 2 + xerostomia in adults with HNC receiving proton and carbon ion radiotherapy.
Materials And Methods: A retrospective study involving 1,769 adults with HNC who completed proton or carbon ion radiotherapy was conducted.

Mass spectrometry (MS) has become a critical tool in the characterization of covalently modified nucleic acids. Well-developed bottom-up approaches, where nucleic acids are digested with an endonuclease and the resulting oligonucleotides are separated before MS and MS/MS analysis, provide substantial insight into modified nucleotides in biological and synthetic nucleic. Top-down MS presents an alternative approach where the entire nucleic acid molecule is introduced to the mass spectrometer intact and then fragmented by MS/MS.

We propose herein a metamaterial (MM) dual-band THz sensor for various biomedical sensing applications. An MM is a material engineered to have a particular property that is rarely observed in naturally occurring materials with an aperiodic subwavelength arrangement. MM properties across a wide range of frequencies, like high sensitivity and quality factors, remain challenging to obtain.
