To enable humanoid prosthetic hands to accurately identify and grasp objects, a touch-slip sensor based on fiber Bragg grating (FBG) was proposed in this paper. The sensor was designed with a double-layer sensing structure to detect three-dimensional force, sliding information, surface roughness, and compensate for ambient temperature using a reference grating. To analyze the relationship between the sensor surface structure parameters and FBG's vibration signal, the contact sliding model was introduced. By using a finite element simulation, the contact sliding model was validated, and the surface structure parameters of the sensor were determined. A series of experiments were conducted on the sensor's three-dimensional force detection, temperature calibration, sliding measurement, and surface roughness detection. Using machine learning methods, a regression prediction model was created. The sensor could detect the surface roughness on the sample plate surface more accurately with a maximum error of 8.58×10. This sensor has the following advantages: a simple structure, low cost, high linearity, and quick response time. It provides a new design solution for the detection of touch-slips on humanoid prosthetic hands.

In order to investigate the influence of shear on contact characteristics and fluid flow evolution of rough rock fractures, a series of shear-flow tests were carried out by numerical experiments. Firstly, a sandstone specimen with a rough fracture was made in the laboratory, and the numerical model of the fracture was reconstructed in FLAC3D software. Experiments were conducted to investigate the depth of penetration of the fracture under different normal stress (1, 3, and 5 MPa) and shear displacement (2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 mm).

Metal and polymer interface bonding significantly influences the mechanical performance of fiber metal laminates (FMLs). Therefore, the effect of surface treatments (mechanical abrasion, nitric acid etching, P2 etching, sulfuric acid anodizing (SAA), and electric discharge machine (EDM) texturing) carried on aluminum 2024-T3 alloy sheets was evaluated considering surface morphology, surface topography, and surface roughness. Further, the influence of surface treatments on interfacial adhesion strength and failure mode between the aluminum alloy and carbon fiber prepreg was investigated.

Polylactic acid (PLA) composites with high straw content face several challenges, primarily due to the inherent brittleness of straw and its poor compatibility with the polymer matrix. In this study, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to analyze the microscopic structure of wheat straw chemically modified by NaOH and the silane coupling agent, and it was concluded that both treatments effectively removed waxes and silica from the surface of the straw, enhanced fiber roughness, and improved interfacial adhesion. Notably, the silane coupling agent treatment not only facilitated the formation of chemical bonds between the straw fibers and the PLA matrix but also filled the interfiber pores, significantly increasing the structural density.

Shenzhen Key Laboratory of Marine Microbiome Engineering Institute for Advanced Study, Shenzhen University, Shenzhen, China. Electronic address:

The ongoing decline in seawater pH, driven by the absorption of excess atmospheric CO, represents a major environmental issue. This reduction in pH can interact with metal pollution, resulting in complex effects on marine phytoplankton. In this study, we examined the combined impacts of seawater acidification and copper (Cu) exposure on the marine diatom Phaeodactylum tricornutum.

In this study, we have investigated the surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectra of myoglobin on silver substrates with different morphology. The aim was to determine the optimal parameters of analyte and substrate preparation for obtaining of high-amplitude SERS spectra of proteins. It is shown that not only the morphology of the silver film, but also the method of analyte molecules deposition on the SERS substrate plays an important role.
