An adenocarcinoma which arose in a dermoid cyst of the ovary displayed areas of melanocyte colonization and pigmentation. Ultrastructural study revealed the presence of epithelial tumour cells and melanocytes; many tumour cells contained compound melanosomes, but not premelanosomes, suggesting transfer of melanin from melanocytes to tumour cells. Melanocyte colonization of malignant tumours is a curious phenomenon the significance of which remains to be elucidated.

Primary vulvar carcinomas are rare and constitute a diverse group of neoplasms. These primary tumors are typically classified based on their presumed tissue of origin or histological characteristics. Among these, carcinomas of sweat gland origin are particularly significant.

Cutaneous squamomelanocytic tumor (SMT) is a very rare cutaneous malignancy, composed of a dual phenotypic population of both malignant melanocytes and keratinocytes, intimately intermingled together. Herein, we report a new case of a SMT occurring in an 82-year-old man, located on the scalp. Histopathology revealed a mixed population consisting of squamous cell carcinoma and melanoma within the same lesion, also confirmed using immunohistochemical staining for high molecular-weight cytokeratins (HMWCKs) and Melan-A.

The standard treatment of choice for pleomorphic dermal sarcoma (PDS), a relatively uncommon soft tissue sarcoma and 1 morphologically similar to atypical fibroxanthoma, is wide local excision with close clinical follow-up. Studies regarding management of advanced/metastatic PDS with immune checkpoint inhibitors are limited as most STSs have historically been viewed as being immunologically inert. Contradicting this belief, in this report, we describe 2 cases of PDS with a robust host response.

Purpose: Low frequency EPR can noninvasively detect endogenous free radical melanin in melanocytic skin lesions and could potentially discriminate between benign atypical nevi and malignant melanoma lesions. We recently succeeded in demonstrating the ability of clinical EPR to noninvasively detect the endogenous melanin free radical in skin lesions of patients. However, the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) was extremely low warranting further research to boost the sensitivity of detection.
