Ultrasound is a diagnostic technique with clear advantages (safety, accessibility, portability) that has achieved to extend its use to all non-radiological medical specialities, increasing the resolution and diagnostic capacity of the professional who uses it. For this reason, it is useful in the management of acute abdominal pain. Acute abdominal pain usually involves an intra-abdominal injury that requires a quick and accurate diagnosis due to the possibility of needing an urgent surgical treatment, therefore, an on-time ultrasound may be decisive. The diseases that cause acute abdominal pain and in which ultrasound provides more value are: aortic aneurysm and its complications, acute appendicitis, acute cholecystitis, renoureteral colic, acute diverticulitis and hemoperitoneum in polytraumatized patients. These diseases present easily recognizable ultrasound findings that make the diagnosis easier and help the doctor to be more confident in caring for patients with acute abdominal pain.

Structural firefighters are exposed to an array of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) as a result of incomplete combustion of both synthetic and natural materials. PAHs are found in both the particulate and vapor phases in the firefighting environment and are significantly associated with acute and chronic diseases, including cancer. Using a fireground exposure simulator (FES) and standing mannequins dressed in four different firefighter personal protective equipment (PPE) conditions, each with varying levels of protective hood interface and particulate-blocking features, the efficacy of the hoods was assessed against the ingress of PAHs (specifically, naphthalene).

Unlabelled: This study aimed to evaluate pathological findings on abdominal ultrasonography upon admission of children diagnosed with Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children (MIS-C) that were associated with a more severe disease course and the need for intensive care unit (ICU) admission. This retrospective and observational study was conducted between March 2020 and May 2022. Abdominal ultrasonography findings were evaluated in children diagnosed with MIS-C associated with SARS-CoV-2.

Introduction: Multiple studies have indicated that isolated abnormal laboratory results necessitate obtaining abdominal computed tomography (CT) for pediatric patients with blunt abdominal trauma (BAT), regardless of the normal abdominal examination. This study aims to identify the predictors of intra-abdominal injury (IAI) and the role of laboratory tests in CT imaging among pediatric BAT patients.
Methods: This is a retrospective review at a Level II pediatric trauma center (2018-2022).

Early recognition of acute kidney injury is essential to prevent progression to chronic kidney disease. We present the case of a 19-year-old man with multiple emergency department visits for fatigue, abdominal pain, and intermittent dark urine. Upon admission, he had pancytopenia with elements suggestive of hemolysis and acute kidney injury.
