Background: The Coma Recovery Scale for Pediatrics (CRS-P) is a modified version of the Coma Recovery Scale-Revised (CRS-R). This CRS-P looks at behavioral responses and diagnoses Coma, Vegetative State, MCS and E-MCS in pediatric age. It is an ordinal scale consisting of 29 items divided into 6 subscales. The CRS-R is a gold standard for the assessment of adults with disorders of consciousness (DOC) and is also recommended for children, following the American Guidelines.
Methods: The CRS-P was translated and culturally adapted into Italian by two independent translators in order to test an adapted Italian version on Italian children.
Results: We found conceptual, semantic and content correspondence between the original version and the preliminary version of the CRS-P in Italian.
Conclusions: The Italian CRS-P version can be tested on Italian children and then validated.

Background: Sepsis-associated encephalopathy (SAE) may be worsened by early systemic insults. We aimed to investigate the association of early systemic insults with outcomes of critically ill patients with severe SAE.
Methods: We performed a retrospective analysis using data from the French OUTCOMEREA prospective multicenter database.

Postoperative disorders of consciousness can arise from various factors, making diagnosis challenging. This report presents a case of a disorder of consciousness that occurred after awakening from general anesthesia, in which various examinations including computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) were conducted, but the cause could not be identified. A man in his 60s with a history of hypertension and cerebral hemorrhage underwent revision total hip arthroplasty under general anesthesia for a left periprosthetic hip fracture.

Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) is a devastating cause of death and disability. Outcomes following TBI have been extensively studied; however, less attention has been given to identifying characteristics of individuals who have a favorable outcome following severe TBI. We conducted a retrospective analysis of a database containing information on TBI patients admitted to a level 1 trauma center between 2015 and 2021.

Baclofen is a gamma-aminobutyric acid agonist that is commonly and widely used for the treatment of muscle spasticity. Given its predominant kidney excretion, patients with reduced kidney function are at particular risk of drug accumulation and toxicity, with neurotoxicity in the form of drowsiness, encephalopathy, seizures, and coma being the most reported clinical features. In addition to the importance of early identification of baclofen toxicity and drug discontinuation, dialysis can effectively accelerate baclofen elimination given its small molecule weight, and the relatively low volume of distribution and weak protein binding.
