Background: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is characterized by decreased renal function. Detecting and treating CKD in its early stages is essential for prognosis and use of less invasive renal treatments. CKD can manifest with different markers of renal damage. However, few studies evaluate the presence of erythrocyte morphological changes in the peripheral blood of patients with CKD.
Objective: To evaluate the correlation between erythrocyte morphological changes and KDIGO stage as a predictor of the severity of renal damage.
Material And Methods: A descriptive, prospective, cross-sectional, and correlational study of patients admitted between March and April 2023. Qualitative variables were reported as frequencies and percentages, and quantitative variables were reported by central tendency and dispersion measures. Finally, Spearman correlation was performed between erythrocyte morphological alterations and the KDIGO stage in patients with CKD.
Results: A total of 385 patients were included, and the correlation of the number of erythrocyte morphological alterations with the KDIGO stage showed that it is directly proportional in a significant way (Spearman's ρ 0.489, p < 0.0001). It was higher for anisocytosis.
Conclusions: Erythrocyte morphological alterations in patients with CKD are frequent and could be a predictor of the severity of this disease.

Pymetrozine (a pyridine azomethine pesticide) is one of the most commonly and frequently used insecticides. Scanty information is available about the deleterious effects of Pymetrozine on fish especially bighead carp. Hence, the current study investigated chronic toxicological effects of pymetrozine in bighead carp.

Rapidly identifying Anopheles-carrying malaria parasites is crucial for imported malaria prevention. However, suitable methods still lack quick detection in limited-resource situations. In this study, disc microfluidic isothermal amplification integrating loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) and microfluidic chip technology were applied to develop rapid and precise detection with low resource requirements.

: Chronic diarrhea in dogs is a prevalent condition that significantly impacts canine health, often leading to weight loss, dehydration, and malnutrition. Diagnosing and treating chronic diarrhea is challenging due to its multifactorial nature, necessitating collaboration among veterinarians across various specialties. Measuring cobalamin and folate levels is a crucial diagnostic step for all dogs with chronic diarrhea.

This study examined the efficacy and mechanisms of action of the antimicrobial peptide BP15 and its lipopeptides, HBP15 and LBP15, against , the primary causative agent of green mold in citrus fruits. The findings revealed that all three antimicrobial peptides markedly inhibited the spore germination and mycelial growth of , with minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of 3.12 μM for BP15, HBP15, and LBP15.

Visual analysis of peripheral blood smear slides using medical image analysis is required to diagnose red blood cell (RBC) morphological deformities caused by anemia. The absence of a complete anaemic RBC dataset has hindered the training and testing of deep convolutional neural networks (CNNs) for computer-aided analysis of RBC morphology. We introduce a benchmark RBC image dataset named Anemic RBC (AneRBC) to overcome this problem.
