AI Article Synopsis

  • Computerized neuropsychological test batteries (CNTs), like Central Nervous System Vital Signs (CNS VS), are common for assessing cognitive function, but there's little proof that they effectively measure cognition.
  • In studying the factor structure of CNS VS across various samples (healthy adults and patients with different types of brain tumors), researchers found differences in how factors were interpreted based on health status.
  • Overall, the findings suggest that the current "clinical domains" of CNS VS may not be valid, and it's better for researchers and clinicians to rely on individual test scores rather than total sum scores.

Article Abstract

Computerized neuropsychological test batteries (CNTs), such as Central Nervous System Vital Signs (CNS VS), are increasingly used for measuring cognitive functioning, but empirical evidence of how they measure cognition is scarce. We investigated the factor structure of CNS VS using exploratory factor analyses four samples: healthy adults ( = 169), patients with meningioma (392), low-grade glioma (99), and high-grade glioma (247). We tested model fit and investigated measurement invariance. Differences in factor interpretation existed between healthy participants and patients. Factor structures among patient groups were approximately the same but differed in non-zero loadings. Overall, factor structures largely did not support the "clinical domains" provided by CNS VS for clinical interpretation. Confirmatory models did not have a good fit, and measurement invariance could not be established. Our results indicate that (weighted) sum scores of CNS VS results may lack validity. We recommend researchers and clinicians to use scores on individual test measures.

Subjective views of aging (VoA) play a crucial role in shaping individuals' physical, mental, and overall well-being. While past research has primarily focused on individual perspectives, recent literature suggests the development of VoA within interpersonal relationships. This study introduces a new scale, the Views of Couple Joint Aging (VoCJA), examining VoA related to the aging process within couple partnerships.

Riverine physical and chemical characteristics are influencing ecosystem integrity while shaping and impacting species richness and diversity. Changes in these factors could potentially influence community structuring through competition, predation and localised species extinctions. In this study, eight sampling sites over multiple seasons were assessed along the streams draining the City of Nelspruit, South Africa, to examine river health based on water and sediment quality, while using macroinvertebrates as bioindicators for pollution.

Social support and aging: psychometric analysis of the ENRICHD Social Support Instrument in a Chilean population over 50.

Departamento de Psicología. Facultad de Educación, Ciencias Sociales y Humanidades, Universidad de La Frontera, Temuco, Chile.

Background: Social support is relevant to studying well-being, quality of life, and health during aging, particularly in people over 50. Therefore, brief instruments that allow its measurement within the clinical evaluation and research processes are necessary. The ENRICH Social Support Scale (ESSI) is a brief and easy-to-use instrument that measures the perception of social support; however, its psychometric properties in people over 50 in the Chilean context have yet to be tested.

In the US, gay, bisexual, and other sexual minoritized men (GBSMM) remain disproportionately impacted by HIV, and continue to experience unmet needs for pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). A growing body of literature has underscored the need to consider the geographic factors of HIV prevention, particularly beyond administrative boundaries and towards localized spaces that influence the accessibility and utilization of health-promoting resources. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to examine the associations of driving times from activity spaces to PrEP offering facilities and individual PrEP uptake.

Objectives: This study examined the factor structure of the short-form Korean version of the Need for Cognition Scale (K-NfC-S) among older adults in South Korea.

Method: Drawn from the 2020 Korean Media Panel Study, a total of 2,281 adults aged 65 years and older were analysed. We measured the need for cognition using the 15-item K-NfC-S.
