Deacidification and structural reinforcement are critically important for the long-term preservation of paper cultural relics. In this study, a novel approach is presented to synergistically combine highly reactive vaterite-type calcium carbonate with aminopropyltriethoxysilane-modified cellulose nanofibrils (NH-CNFs) for the restoration of aged paper. Employed as a deacidification agent, vaterite demonstrated superior efficacy at a low dosage in comparison with commercially available calcite-type calcium carbonate. Concurrently, the carboxylate content of NH-CNFs was reduced, enhancing its hydrophobicity and thermal stability. A comprehensive characterization of both vaterite and NH-CNFs was conducted using multiple analytical techniques. Upon application of this restoration system to aged paper samples, the pH and alkaline reserve were elevated to 8.05 and 0.637 mol/kg, respectively. The tensile strength of the paper sample was augmented by 15 %, while folding endurance and tearing resistance were enhanced by 139 % and 66 %, respectively. Notably, the integration of vaterite exhibited no deleterious impact on the mechanical properties of the paper substrate. Additionally, this treatment imparted a substantial anti-aging effect, as evidenced by the results of dry heat and UV-irradiation aging. Consequently, this research introduces a novel and efficacious methodology for the restoration of aged paper, offering promising implications for the conservation of historical documents.

In 1941, André Rey published the Rey Complex Figure, a widely used test for assessing visual-constructional ability and visual memory. It consists of two parts: copy and recall. Evaluating the copy portion presents challenges, as it requires the administrator to focus on both the process and outcome.

Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the acute effects of beetroot extract and resveratrol supplementation (isolated and combined) on cardiac autonomic modulation and cardiovascular parameters recovery after exercise in individuals with coronary artery disease (CAD).
Methods: 14 males with CAD were submitted to 4 protocols consisting of 30 min (min) of rest, 30 min of aerobic exercise on a treadmill (60% of the heart rate reserve HRR), followed by 30 min of recovery. Before each protocol, the subjects consumed 500 mg of starch (placebo protocol), 500 mg of beetroot (beetroot protocol), or 500 mg of resveratrol (resveratrol protocol), or 500 mg of beetroot and 500 mg of resveratrol (combined protocol).

Purpose: Cancer-related cognitive impairment (CRCI) can have a profound impact on the lives of cancer survivors. A multitude of subjective and objective assessment tools exist to assess the presence and severity of CRCI. However, no purpose-built tool exists to assess the unmet needs of cancer survivors directly relating to CRCI.

In this paper, we report on creative- and arts-based sexual violence and bystander intervention workshops we developed and researched in England, Ireland, and Canada, through evaluation surveys, observations, and focus group interviews with nearly 1200 young people (aged 13-18). Whist the young people generally reported benefitting from the intervention, in the context of increasing use of digital technologies amongst youth, we explore the context-specific challenges they faced in learning about and being supported through bystander strategies across a wide range of diverse school spaces. We use the term postdigital bystanding to explicitly explore how teen's digital networks are often connected to the school-based 'real life' peer group, in ways that complicate clear distinctions between online and offline, arguing that these postdigital dynamics have not yet been adequately considered in bystanding interventions.

The aim of this paper is to identify if there is a difference in length of stay following hip fractures when using rehabilitation beds. Prospective data was collected on all hip fracture admissions in patients over 50 years from May 2016 to February 2018 from ISD NHS Scotland to identify length of stay. It was found that patients discharged home via rehabilitation wards were less likely to have returned to their own home by 30 days post admission and were also significantly more likely to stay in hospital for 40 days or more when compared to patients discharged directly home.
