Heavy metal pollution in aquatic ecosystems can lead to harmful accumulation in organisms like stingrays, posing potential health risks to humans. To assess this risk, 45 stingrays were sampled from Johor Waters (Pontian, Muar, and Batu Pahat) and analyzed for heavy metal content using Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS). The average concentrations of Cu, Zn, As, Cd, Pb, and Hg in the fillets were 0.982±0.637, 31.3±5.93, 93.57±24.5, 0.039±0.047, 0.158±0.036, and 0.592±0.424 μg/g dw, respectively. Arsenic (As) was found at the highest concentration. The study indicates that fish size does not directly influence heavy metal accumulation and that metal levels vary by location. Calculated consumption limits for different metals are crucial for human safety. This data is valuable for evaluating contamination risks and guiding future research to protect marine ecosystems in Johor Waters.

Rainfall-induced landslides are a frequent geohazard for tropical regions with prevalent residual soils and year-round rainy seasons. The water infiltration into unsaturated soil can be analyzed using the soil-water characteristic curve (SWCC) and permeability function which can be used to monitor and predict incoming landslides, showing the necessity of selecting the appropriate model parameter while fitting the SWCC model. This paper presents a set of data from six different sections of the studied slope at varying depths that are used to test the performance of three SWCC models, the van Genuchten-Mualem (vG-M), Fredlund-Xing (F-X) and Gardner (G).

Chromium-based lignosulfonate (CrLS) deflocculants that are commonly used in water-based drilling muds (WBDMs) to deflocculate bentonites under high temperature (HT), high-pressure (HP), and high-salinity (HS) oil well drilling conditions have been found to contain heavy metals such as chromium, which is toxic and degrades rapidly. However, different ways of addressing this issue have been proffered, including the use of natural polymers such as starch, cellulose, or anionic inorganic agents such as sodium polyphosphates with little or no impact. Other lignosulfonate (LS)-based deflocculants, like sodium-based LS and bio-based LS, have shown a number of benefits, such as being better for the environment, more soluble and evenly distributed in WBDMs, more resistant to salt contamination, easily biodegradable, safe, and able to go through different chemical changes.

The depletion of oil reserves and their price and availability volatility raise researchers' concerns about renewable resources for epoxidized material. This study aims to produce in situ and ex-situ hydrolyzed dihydroxy stearic acid via the epoxidation of neem oil. Epoxidized neem oil was synthesized using in situ-generated performic acid.

In the Johor River Basin, a comprehensive analysis was conducted on 24 water environmental parameters across 33 sampling sites over 3 years, encompassing both dry and wet seasons. A total of 396 water samples were collected and analyzed to calculate the Water Quality Index (WQI). To further assess water quality and pinpoint potential pollution sources, multivariate techniques such as principal component analysis (PCA) and cluster analysis (CA), alongside spatial analysis using inverse distance weighted (IDW) interpolation, were employed.

This material was collected from various localities in Singapore waters, from the intertidal zone to subtidal habitats up to 91 m in depth. Many species exhibited a narrow bathymetric distribution and strong affiliation to certain habitats or microhabitats such as mudflats, coral reefs, and barnacle shells on rocky shores.
