Recently, lead halide perovskites have shown great potential in the photodetection field. Unfortunately, the existence of toxic lead elements restricts their practical application. Herein, high-quality 1D lead-free crystals RbCuX (X = Cl, Br) are successfully synthesized in an acidic medium. RbCuCl and RbCuBr display violet photoluminescence emission peaks at 401 and 388 nm with a high exciton lifetime of 12.78 and 59.67 µs, respectively, which is due to self-trapped excitons (STE). Furthermore, a photodetector is fabricated to detect harmful UVC radiation with RbCuBr as a light absorber. The proposed photodetector has a responsivity of 0.92 mA W and a specific detectivity of 1.57 × 10 Jones with a fast response speed of 2.67/2.70 µs for rise/fall time, respectively. In addition, both the samples show good stability against open air, and continuous ultraviolet light (254 nm), as well as good thermal stability which is necessary for device fabrication. Thus, the present study suggests that stable, non-toxic, and environment-friendly RbCuX (X = Cl, Br) can be a promising candidate for future UVC optoelectronic devices.

Lipid-mediated resolution of inflammation and survival in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

Brain Commun

January 2025

Neuromuscular Department, Motor Neuron Disease Centre, Queen Square Institute of Neurology, University College London, London WC1N 3BG, UK.

Neuroinflammation impacts on the progression of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a fatal neurodegenerative disorder. Specialized pro-resolving mediators trigger the resolution of inflammation. We investigate the specialized pro-resolving mediator blood profile and their receptors' expression in peripheral blood mononuclear cells in relation to survival in ALS.

Quantum ghost imaging (QGI) leverages correlations between entangled photon pairs to reconstruct an image using light that has never physically interacted with an object. Despite extensive research interest, this technique has long been hindered by slow acquisition speeds, due to the use of raster-scanned detectors or the slow response of intensified cameras. Here, we utilize a single-photon-sensitive time-stamping camera to perform QGI at ultra-low-light levels with rapid data acquisition and processing times, achieving high-resolution and high-contrast images in under 1 min.

A Facile Approach To Develop Ion Pair Micelles Satellited Freshly Derived Neutrophils For Targeted Tumor Therapy.

Adv Healthc Mater

January 2025

Department of Biomedical Science & Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology, Kangwon National University, Chuncheon, 24341, Republic of Korea.

Immune cells show enormous potential for targeted nanoparticle delivery due to their intrinsic tumor-homing skills. However, the immune cells can internalize the nanoparticles, leading to cellular functional impairments, degradation of the nanoparticles, and delayed release of drugs from the immune cells. To address these issues, this study introduces an approach for the synthesis of freshly derived neutrophils (NUs)-based nanocarriers system where the NUs are surfaced by dialdehyde alginate-coated self-assembled micelles loaded with mitoxantrone (MIT) and indocyanine green (ICG) (i.
