Alzheimer's disease is a neurodegenerative disorder that impairs neurocognitive functions. Acetylcholinesterase, Butyrylcholinesterase, Monoamine Oxidase B, Beta-Secretase, and Glycogen Synthase Kinase Beta play central roles in its pathogenesis. Current medications primarily inhibit AChE but fail to halt or reverse disease progression due to the multifactorial nature of Alzheimer's.

Huntington's disease (HD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease resulting from a mutation in the huntingtin (HTT) gene and characterized by progressive motor dysfunction, cognitive decline, and psychiatric disturbances. Currently, no disease-modifying treatments are available. Recent research has developed therapeutic agents that may have the potential to directly target the disease pathology, such as gene silencing or clearing the mutant protein.

Perioperative anesthetic, surgical and critical careinterventions can affect brain physiology and overall brain health. The clinical utility of electroencephalogram (EEG) monitoring in anesthesia and intensive care settings is multifaceted, offering critical insights into the level of consciousness and depth of anesthesia, facilitating the titration of anesthetic doses, and enabling the detection of ischemic events and epileptic activity. Additionally, EEG monitoring can aid in predicting perioperative neurocognitive disorders, assessing the impact of systemic insults on cerebral function, and informing neuroprognostication.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is characterized by the aggregation of amyloid β (Aβ) peptides and the formation of plaques in the brain, primarily derived from the proteolytic degradation of amyloid precursor protein (APP). Cathepsin B (CatB) is a cysteine protease that plays a pivotal role in this process, making it a potential target for the development of anti-Alzheimer's therapies. Apart from AD, CatB is implicated in various physiological and pathological processes, including cancer.
