Article Abstract

A new species of Girault, Chen & Jiang, , is reported from China. A key to all species of the genus is provided. DNA standard barcode COI and partial nuclear ribosomal 28S-D2 from two individuals of were sequenced, and 28S-D2 rDNA was included in a phylogenetic analysis, confirming as the sister group to .

Foraging abilities and competitive interactions between two egg parasitoids of bagrada bug in California.

Bagrada bug, (Burmeister) (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae), is an invasive pest of cole crops in the United States. Because it also feeds on widespread weeds and persists in natural habitats surrounding crop fields, conventional control strategies are often ineffective at providing long-term control. One egg parasitoid, Talamas (Hymenoptera: Scelionidae), is a promising biological control candidate because of its ability to parasitise buried eggs.

Four species of the cosmopolitan genus Walker, 1834 (Hymenoptera: Chalcidoidea: Asaphesinae, family incerta sedis) are recorded from Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, China, bringing the number of known species in China to eight. In addition to (Nees ab Esenbeck), 1834 and Walker, 1834, Li & Zhang, is newly described based on females and Girault, 1917, previously known only from North and South America, is newly recorded from China. These four species are differentiated using an integrative taxonomic approach that includes COI barcode data and morphometrics, and are illustrated using macrophotography.

Wild animals in general, birds in particular, play a key role in transporting ticks and propagating tick-borne pathogens. Several studies have confirmed the infection of birds with Anaplasma phagocytophilum, with overall prevalence varying widely from country to country and/or study to study. This zoonotic bacterium, transmitted mainly by ticks of the genus Ixodes, is responsible for granulocytic anaplasmosis in humans (HGA) and domestic animals (cats, dogs, horses).
