We report a case of extensor digitorum bowstringing after complete rupture of the extensor retinaculum treated successfully with an ankle extensor retinaculum graft. Reconstruction of structure, form and mechanical properties of the extensor retinaculum is possible owing to the histological similarity of anatomical pulleys throughout the body. V.

Background: Despite advancements in prosthetic designs and surgical techniques, patellar dislocation remains a rare but significant complication following total knee arthroplasty, with an incidence ranging between 0.15% and 0.5%.

Background: Patients with chronic lateral ankle instability (CLAI) can be managed with arthroscopic Broström repair and inferior extensor retinaculum augmentation or arthroscopic assisted lateral ligament reconstruction using ipsilateral semitendinosus autograft, with good functional outcomes in patients. It is unclear whether one offers better outcome that the other. This retrospective analysis of prospectively collected data compared the outcomes of repair and reconstruction.

MRI Findings of Bilateral Anterior Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome - A Case Report.

J Musculoskelet Neuronal Interact

December 2024

Department of Medical Imaging, St. Joseph's Health Care London, Ontario, Canada.

Anterior tarsal tunnel syndrome, an infrequent entrapment neuropathy involving the deep peroneal nerve beneath the inferior extensor retinaculum in the anterior ankle, is often overlooked on medical images, leading to delayed diagnosis and treatment. We present the case of a 52-year-old male, an avid runner, who exhibited a sensation of burning and tingling in the dorsal region of both feet. Electrophysiologic studies suggested bilateral deep peroneal neuropathy.

Background: In patients with lateral ankle instability (LAI) and attenuated ligament tissue quality, the stability of lateral ankle can be achieved through percutaneous inferior extensor retinaculum augmentation (PIERA). This study is aimed to compare the functional outcomes of PIERA with gold standard Modified Broström Procedure (MBP) for patients with LAI.

Methods: Twenty participants were allocated to PIERA and MBP treatment group according to the intraoperative arthroscopic assessment of lateral ankle ligament, with each group comprises 10 participants.

We report this case of a rock climber who sustained a right ring-finger grade-III A2 pulley rupture. After failed nonoperative management, the patient underwent pulley reconstruction with ipsilateral palmaris longus autograft using a double-loop technique. The immediate postoperative course was uncomplicated, and the patient returned to painless rock climbing six months after the index procedure.
