Goals of care discussions and advance care planning aim to align the values and wishes of patients and their families with the care received. All paediatric health care practitioners who care for fetuses, infants, children or adolescents with serious illnesses have an ethical responsibility to educate themselves about these aspects of care. This statement assists care providers with important conversations. Effective communication is essential to clarify the goals of care and establish agreement on appropriate treatments for achieving those goals, including resuscitative and palliative measures.

Objective: To present the results of a pilot study of On-TRACC (Tools for Recovery and Clinical Care), a novel intervention for individuals experiencing persistent cognitive difficulties after mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI). On-TRACC is a 5-session, 1:1 manualized treatment that integrates psychoeducation, cognitive rehabilitation strategies, and self-management skills to target symptoms and increase understanding of the interaction between cognitive difficulties, injury history, and comorbid medical and psychological conditions. The primary study goals were to evaluate the feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary effectiveness of On-TRACC.

Background/objectives: Rotavirus (RV) is the primary cause of gastroenteritis in children worldwide, contributing significantly to morbidity and mortality, particularly among children under five years of age. The introduction of Rotavirus vaccines (RVV) has markedly reduced RV-related childhood deaths, especially in Europe, where substantial reductions in hospitalizations and disease prevalence have been observed. Despite these advances, RVV uptake in Italy remains below the desired targets, with notable regional disparities.

Background/objectives: Healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) present significant challenges in modern healthcare, leading to increased morbidity, mortality, and healthcare costs. Examination gloves play a critical role in infection prevention by serving as a barrier to reduce the risk of cross-contamination between healthcare workers and patients. This manuscript aims to provide consensus-based guidelines for the optimal selection, use, and disposal of examination gloves in healthcare settings, addressing both infection prevention and environmental sustainability.

Immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) in pediatric patients is a common cause of isolated thrombocytopenia. Various pathophysiological mechanisms are implicated in ITP pathogenesis, including the production of autoantibodies against components of platelets (PLTs) by B-cells, the activation of the complement system, phagocytosis by macrophages mediated by Fcγ receptors, the dysregulation of T cells, and reduced bone marrow megakaryopoiesis. ITP is commonly manifested with skin and mucosal bleeding, and it is a diagnosis of exclusion.

Point-of-care (POC) use is one of the essential goals of biosensing platforms. Because the increasing demand for testing cannot be met by a centralized laboratory-based strategy, rapid and frequent testing at the right time and place will be key to increasing health and safety. To date, however, there are still difficulties in developing a simple and affordable, as well as sensitive and effective, platform that enables POC use.
