In recent years, the application of electrochromic laminated safety glass has attracted more and more attention, relying on polyvinyl butyral (PVB) solid electrolyte film. Herein, the ionic conductivity (σ) of the PVB film has been improved by a cross-linked structure and blended with LiClO, which can reach as high as 1.78 × 10 S cm at room temperature. In addition, their excellent comprehensive characteristics have been confirmed, such as mechanical strength, high visible light transmittance (>90%), high bond strength (4.2 MPa), and excellent thermal stability. Based on the PVB film above, WO-laminated electrochromic devices with 5 × 5 cm and 10 × 10 cm areas are constructed. They can remain stable after 20 000 cycles monitored by cyclic voltammetry curves, indicating the PVB solid polymer electrolyte (PSPE) with a cross-linked structure has the potential commercial viability of large-area electrochromic devices (ECDs).

Polyvinyl butyral (PVB) is a high-performance thermoplastic polymer, commonly used as an interlayer material in laminated safety glass for the automotive and architectural sectors. Currently, there is no end-of-life cycle program for a substantial amount of PVB film, which mainly ends up in landfills. According to a circular approach, PVB can be revalorized after efficient separation and recovery from glass.

Humidity Resistant Biodegradable Starch Foams Reinforced with Polyvinyl Butyral (PVB) and Chitosan.

Polymers (Basel)

December 2024

Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science, Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI 48824, USA.

In this study, water-insoluble, moisture-resistant starch foams were prepared using an optimized one-step extrusion-foaming process in a ZSK-30 twin screw extruder. The extrusion parameters, including temperature, screw configuration, die diameter, water content, and feeding rates, were optimized to achieve foams with the lowest density and controlled expansion. A screw configuration made up of three kneading sections was found to be the most effective for better mixing and foaming.

Printing inks, composed of binders, pigments, and additives, are essential components in plastic packaging but complicate recycling due to plastic contamination and degradation. While polyolefins are resistant to hydrolytic degradation, moisture generated from upstream cleaning processes, which is often ignored, can accelerate the degradation of ink binders, affecting the recyclate quality. This study has examined the impact of 3 wt.

Synergistic Long-Term Protection of Inorganic and Polymer Hybrid Coatings for Free-Dendrite Zinc Anodes.

Constructing an artificial solid electrolyte interface protective layer on the surface of the zinc anode is an effective strategy for addressing dendrite growth, passivation, and the hydrogen evolution reaction in aqueous zinc-ion batteries. This study introduces a robust interlayer composed of a polyvinyl butyral matrix decorated with SiO particles (PS). Adsorption of water by Si-OH on the surface of SiO leads to excellent hydrophilicity and accelerates the desolvation of ions.
