Access to state-of-the-art ART can be viewed as a marker of societal development. The recent Alabama Supreme Court ruling represents a major local setback in the access to state-of-the-art ART. If this isolated local incident becomes a national trend, the USA will lose ground in this emerging area of healthcare, and its citizens will be left with substandard treatment options for the redress of infertility.

Severe mental disorders (SMDs), such as schizophrenia (SZ), bipolar disorder (BD), and major depressive disorder (MDD), are heterogeneous psychiatric diseases that impose a significant societal burden due to their chronic disabling nature. There are no objective and reliable diagnostic tests for SMDs; thus, there is an urgent need for specific biomarkers to improve diagnosis, treatment, and resource allocation. Neurofilaments, found in cerebrospinal fluid and blood, offer reliable diagnostic and prognostic potential.

Cancer is a complex disease with profound societal and economic impacts, especially in metastatic cases where treatment challenges arise due to the absence of reliable biomarkers and effective therapies. While P21-activated kinases (PAKs) play a key role in cancer progression, their potential as predictive markers for metastasis and therapeutic targets has not been fully explored. We hypothesized that genetic alterations in PAK isoforms could be linked to reduced overall patient survival.

This essay focuses on the ethical considerations and implications of providing a universal multi-cancer screening test as the best approach to reduce societal cancer burden in a society with limited funds, resources, and infrastructure. With 1.9 million cancer diagnoses each year in the United States, with 86% of all cancers diagnosed in individuals over the age of 50, and with screening tools approved for only four cancer types (breast, cervical, colorectal, and lung cancer), it seems that a multi-cancer screening test to detect most cancer early that is easy to administer, and is accurate and cost-effective, would be worth considering.

Psychological resilience is a key factor for societal and military stability when faced with terror attacks and/or war. The research presents physiological findings-obtained with the electrodermal activity (EDA) and Auditory Sustained Attention Test (ASAT)-on stress responses, attentional and emotion regulation abilities in 57 Israel Defense Force male and female combat soldiers during the ongoing Israel-Hamas war. In addition, it shows self-reported resilience scores and post traumatic symptomatology measured by questionnaires and explores the relationship between the subjective and objective data.

Sleep is vital for maintaining physical and mental well-being, impacting cognitive functions like memory and learning through neuroplasticity. Sleep disturbances prevalent in neurological and psychiatric disorders exacerbate cognitive decline, imposing societal burdens. Exploring the relationship between sleep and neuroplasticity elucidates the mechanisms influencing cognition, particularly amidst the prevalent sleep disturbances in these clinical populations.
