Recently I had to have a few minutes in my office to regroup after I'd seen a patient. I didn't quite know how to process my feelings. I was feeling ashamed and upset. My patient had been in our waiting room for over 18 hours. He was a bilateral amputee and a wheelchair user. His medical problem was not life threatening and easy to treat but was affecting his arm and so affected his ability to care for himself, hence the need for admission. He was usually normally independent, worked full time, headed up a local charity but now suddenly found himself incredibly vulnerable.

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of actinomycin D (ActD) as prophylactic chemotherapy (P-chem) in patients with high-risk complete hydatidiform mole (Hr-CHM) on progression to gestational trophoblastic neoplasia (GTN).

Methods: From 1996 to 2023, 426 Hr-CHMs were selected in a cohort of 1623 patients with gestational trophoblastic disease (GTD). From 1996 to 2023, 290 patients with Hr-CHMs received a single bolus dose of Act-D at the time of uterine evacuation (Hr-CHM P-chem group); 136 with the same risk factors did not receive P-chem (Hr-CHM control group).

Department of Basic Sciences, Faculty of Dental Sciences, University of Peradeniya, Peradeniya, 20400 Sri Lanka. Electronic address:

Objective: This study evaluated the effectiveness of an AI-based tool (ChatGPT-4) (AIT) vs a human tutor (HT) in providing feedback on dental students' assignments.

Methods: A total of 194 answers to two histology questions were assessed by both tutors using the same rubric. Students compared feedback from both tutors and evaluated its accuracy against a standard rubric.

Single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) analysis offers tremendous potential for addressing various biological questions, with one key application being the annotation of query datasets with unknown cell types using well-annotated external reference datasets. However, the performance of existing supervised or semi-supervised methods largely depends on the quality of source data. Furthermore, these methods often struggle with the batch effects arising from different platforms when handling multiple reference or query datasets, making precise annotation challenging.

Environmental and biological measurements of the anesthetic isoflurane and its possible toxic effects in veterinarians.

Environ Toxicol Pharmacol

January 2025

Sao Paulo State University - UNESP, Medical School, GENOTOX Laboratory, Botucatu, Brazil. Electronic address:

We evaluated both environmental (workplace) and biological (urine) exposure to the anesthetic isoflurane concerning the effects of such exposure on the hematological, hepatic, and renal parameters in veterinarians. Samples were collected from exposed and nonexposed (volunteers) groups to assess hematological and several biochemical markers, and isoflurane was measured in the workplace air and veterinarian's urine. Isoflurane was detected at high levels in the air and urine.
