Light microscopes became essential tools in everyday lab work a long time ago. However, most commercial microscopes are costly, and they are often bulky and heavy. Therefore, microscopes are rarely seen in mobile applications or used by interested amateurs. Here, we present an affordable, portable single-lens microscope. It essentially uses a Raspberry Pi single-board computer, a camera, a touchscreen display, and an LED ring at its core. Apart from brightfield microscopy, contrast-enhancing methods by oblique, dark-field, and Rheinberg illumination are possible, as well. The microscope is ideal for applications that do not require high-end optical components. Due to its low cost and flexible use, it is also suitable for hands-on experiences of the fascinating world not visible by the human eye.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is an irreversible neurodegenerative disorder that poses a significant risk to human health and well-being. The high cost and invasiveness of neuroimaging and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) analysis underscores the necessity for accessible early screening via blood samples. In this study, we developed an ultrasound-based strategy for emergent macroscopic that enhances the acoustic response enrichment of specific proteins by introducing functionalized microspheres.

Detection and analysis of organochlorine pesticides (OCP) residue is getting significant research importance because of their extensive use despite their hazardous effects on the health of people and the ecosystem. Despite the implementation of regulations and bans to safeguard human health and the environment, reports frequently reveal the continued use of these harmful chemicals in quantities exceeding the recommended limits set by regulatory boards. Data on the use of OCP from India, the most populous country, and African countries is not very encouraging.

A polarimeter is a common but critical instrument for measuring the optical rotation of chiral compounds, ranging from the pharmaceutical to chemical industry, or even employed in monitoring chemical reactions for research purposes. Developing a portable polarimeter helps to transfer the measurements from the laboratory to on-site detection. Herein, we design a new portable polarimeter with a "hand-held" scale.

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Canadian public health advisors and politicians have shared mixed messages about the utility of portable air filters (PAFs) for mitigating the transmission of airborne infectious diseases. Some public health advisors and decision-makers have also suggested that PAFs are cumbersome or require expert advice. We take this opportunity to review evidence and address myths about PAFs.

Optically-pumped magnetometer (OPM) has been of increasing interest for biomagnetic measurements due to its low cost and portability compared with superconducting quantum interference devices (SQUID). Miniaturized spin-exchange-relaxation-free (SERF) OPMs typically have limited bandwidth (less than a few hundred Hertz), making it difficult to measure high-frequency biomagnetic signals such as the magnetocardiography (MCG) signal of the mouse. Existing experiments mainly use SQUID systems to measure the signal.
