Copper oxide high-temperature superconductors, such as BiSrCaCuO (Bi2212), have garnered extensive research interest due to their high critical temperatures (T) surpassing the Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS) limit. The two-dimensional CuO₂ plane is widely regarded as the most crucial element of high-T cuprate superconductors. The anisotropy of this CuO₂ layer remains a topic of ongoing interest. Although a few experimental results have reported strong optical anisotropy in both ab and ac-planes of Bi2212 through optical "reflectivity" measurements, there is a lack of studies focusing on the optical anisotropy of these materials using optical "transmittance" measurements by utilizing ultraviolet and visible light. Using a generalized high-accuracy universal polarimeter, we observed significant linear birefringence and linear dichroism peaks in the UV region at room temperature. To investigate the origin of the significant optical anisotropy, single crystals of BiPbSrCaCuO with different lead contents (x = 0, 0.4, and 0.6) were grown using the floating zone method, and the wavelength dependencies of linear birefringence and linear dichroism along the c axis were measured. The insights gained into the optical anisotropy of BiPbSrCaCuO from this study are significant for discussing its origin of the mechanism of high-T superconductivity.

Two-dimensional (2D) van der Waals (vdW) materials are known for their intriguing physical properties, but their rational design and synthesis remain a great challenge for chemists. In this work, we successfully synthesized a new non-centrosymmetric oxide, i.e.

Introduction: Traditional extraocular electrical stimulation typically produces diffuse electric fields across the retina, limiting the precision of targeted therapy. Temporally interfering (TI) electrical stimulation, an emerging approach, can generate convergent electric fields, providing advantages for targeted treatment of various eye conditions.

Objective: Understanding how detailed structures of the retina, especially the optic nerve, affects electric fields can enhance the application of TI approach in retinal neurodegenerative and vascular diseases, an essential aspect that has been frequently neglected in previous researches.

Photoacoustic imaging (PAI) is a developing image modality that benefits from light-matter interaction and low acoustic attenuation to provide functional information on tissue composition at relatively large depths. Several studies have reported the potential of dichroism-sensitive photoacoustic (DS-PA) imaging to expand PAI capabilities by obtaining morphological information of tissue regarding anisotropy and predominant orientation. However, most of these studies have limited their analysis to superficial scanning of samples, where fluence effects are negligible.

The article describes a technique for digital holographic reconstruction of complex amplitude fields in diffuse blood facies using laser polarization-interference phase scanning to isolate a single scattered component of the object field. This method serves as the basis for developing algorithms for Mueller-matrix reconstruction of linear and circular birefringence parameters in the polycrystalline architectonics of blood facies. Statistical (central moments of the 1st-4th orders) and multifractal analyses (fractal dimension spectra) are applied to study the optical anisotropy maps of polycrystalline networks during blood dehydration.

Institute of Functional Nano & Soft Materials (FUNSOM), Soochow University, Suzhou 215123, PR China.

The ever-growing interest in MXenes has been driven by their distinct electrical, thermal, mechanical, and optical properties. In this context, further revealing their physicochemical attributes remains the key frontier of MXene materials. Herein, we report the anisotropic localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) features in TiCT MXene as well as site-selective photocatalysis enabled by the photophysical anisotropy.
