The patient was a 52-year-old male. His right eye had been swollen for more than 6 years and he had once been diagnosed with "inflammatory pseudotumor of the right eye (lacrimal gland type)" and underwent surgical resection. He was admitted to the hospital due to the recurrence of swelling in the right eyelid accompanied by aggravated exophthalmos. The patient had high-myopia in both eyes, and there was a mass in the lacrimal gland area of his right eye. Imaging examinations showed relevant manifestations of the mass in the lacrimal gland area of the right orbit. During the operation, the characteristics of the mass in the right orbit were observed. Post-operative pathological examinations found that there were hyperplasia of histiocytes, lymphocytes, plasma cells, etc. in the diseased tissues. Immunohistochemical examinations had corresponding results. The result of gene rearrangement PCR detection was that no clonal amplification peaks of IgH and IgK were found. Finally, the patient was diagnosed with extranodal Rosai-Dorfman disease accompanied by an increase in IgG4-positive plasma cells. After 3-year follow-up, the patient was in good condition and there was no recurrence of the mass.

Purpose: Chronic jet lag (CJL) is known to disrupt circadian rhythms, which regulate various physiological processes, including ocular surface homeostasis. However, the specific effects of CJL on lacrimal gland function and the underlying cellular mechanisms remain poorly understood.

Methods: A CJL model was established using C57BL/6J mice.

Purpose: This study investigated the impact of hyperglycemia in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) on the circadian rhythms and function of lacrimal glands (LGs) in contributing to dry eye syndrome. We assessed the effects of hyperglycemia on circadian gene expression, immune cell recruitment, neural activity, and metabolic pathways, and evaluated the effectiveness of insulin in restoring normal LG function.

Methods: Using a T2DM mouse model (db/db mice), circadian transcriptomic changes in LGs were analyzed through RNA sequencing over a 24-hour period.

Primary Sjögren's syndrome (pSS) is an autoimmune disease characterized by the infiltration of lymphocytes on salivary and lacrimal glands, resulting in their dysfunction. Patients suffering from severe pSS have an increased risk of developing multi-organ dysfunction syndrome due to the development of systemic inflammatory response, which results in immune cell-driven injury of the lungs, kidneys, liver, and brain. Therapeutic agents that are used for the treatment of severe pSS encounter various limitations and challenges that can impact their effectiveness.

Background: Primary acquired nasolacrimal duct obstruction (PANDO) is a condition in which tear ducts are blocked, leading to epiphora and dacryocystitis. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to measure the ability of transcanalicular dacryocystorhinostomy (TC-DCR) as an alternative approach to PANDO compared to traditional external dacryocystorhinostomy (EX-DCR).

Methods: Our search included Embase, Medline, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL).

Oncocytic Carcinoma Ex-Pleomorphic Adenoma of the Lacrimal Gland.

Oncocytic carcinoma is a rare malignant neoplasm of oncocytic cells, such cells being characterized by abundant granular eosinophilic cytoplasm, invasive growth, and pronounced cellular pleomorphism. It may arise de novo, or through malignant transformation of a pre-existing benign oncocytoma. Oncocytic carcinoma most commonly occurs in the salivary glands, with rare involvement of the ocular adnexa where it mainly affects caruncle, conjunctiva, and lacrimal sac, and only very arises in the lacrimal gland.
