Being able to prepare a diagnostic blood smear for evaluation is an essential skill for veterinary practitioners. While this basic technique can be demonstrated via videos or illustrations, it can only be learned through practice and with feedback. With the necessity for virtual learning experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic, a model was developed and paired with an online module to facilitate at home instruction and practice of blood smear preparation. Materials for the simulated blood included water, corn starch, and gel-based food coloring. Students were supplied a kit that, in addition to the simulated blood, included slides, Kimwipes®, microhematocrit tubes, a disposable pipette, a cleaning cloth, and disposable gloves. The module includes an introduction to making blood smears, an explanation of simulation kit contents, a demonstration video, and a reflection component. The simulation experience was developed for a short course with 12 students, and the required clinical pathology course, which has 100 students. Overall, the model is cost-effective, and students felt that the activity was useful to practice making blood smears and provided a good introduction and useful explanation of the overall technique in a virtual/ distance learning environment.

This study is the first to conduct a sero-surveillance of Bovine Tropical Theileriosis (BTT) caused by the protozoan parasite Theileria annulata (T. annulata) using a recombinant Tams1 protein-based dot-ELISA in cattle, and to compare its efficacy with plate-ELISA, single PCR, nested PCR, and blood microscopy. The goal was to identify the most effective method for the early and accurate detection of theileriosis, which significantly impacts livestock through reduced milk yield and increased mortality.

Objective: To harvest the primary Philadelphia chromosome-positive (Ph) cells of B-acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL) and to establish the B-ALL mouse model.
Methods: The plasmid carrying fusion gene was transferred into the bone marrow(BM) cells of C57BL/6J mice by retrovirus. Syngeneic mice irradiated with 9 Gy of Co γ-ray were injected with the transfected BM cells as the first generation (G1), and then the primary cells from the spleen and BM of the diseased mice were obtained and frozen.

A previously healthy 32-year-old male patient was admitted to hospital with malaise, dyspnea, anemia, thrombocytopenia, and leukopenia. Anemia and thrombocytopenia worsened during the third week. Considering the possible need for transfusion, routine ABO and D typing and an antibody detection test were performed.

Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) is an exceptionally rare complication during pregnancy and even rarer when it coincides with severe preeclampsia in the same index pregnancy. We report the case of a 36-year-old female who presented with confusion at 38 weeks of gestation. Although her signs and symptoms strongly suggested severe preeclampsia, she was expected to make a full recovery after an emergency C-section.

Introduction: Neutropenia is defined as an absolute neutrophil count (ANC) < 1500 cells/microL and may be discovered incidentally in an asymptomatic, afebrile patient.
Objective: This narrative review provides an approach to the afebrile emergency department patient with incidental neutropenia.
Discussion: Neutropenia is an ANC < 1500 cells/microL, with mild neutropenia defined as an ANC ≥ 1000 to <1500 cells/microL, moderate ≥500 to <1000 cells/microL, severe <500 cells/microL, and agranulocytosis <200 cells/microL.
