This study is aimed at evaluating gender differences in neural activity change response to the acupuncture on left (LI 15) in healthy volunteers. Forty healthy volunteers (20 males and 20 females) received 20-min acupuncture on left LI 15 and underwent functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) scans before and after acupuncture. Amplitude of low-frequency fluctuations (ALFF) in the 0.01-0.08 Hz range were determined for both scans. Paired -tests were performed on ALFF between two scans separately for the male and female groups to identify neural changes related to acupuncture. After acupuncture, males showed significantly increased ALFF in the left cerebellum and right angular gyrus but decreased ALFF in the left precentral gyrus, left inferior occipital gyrus, and right fusiform gyrus. However, the ALFF change in females is almost negligible. Brain functional activity in response to acupuncture on left LI 15 is noticeably different between males and females. This is preliminary evidence that gender may be an important factor for optimal clinically personalized acupuncture therapy for poststroke shoulder pain in the future.

Rationale: Fu's subcutaneous needling (FSN) is a special acupuncture method that uses FSN to sweep the subcutaneous tissue around or adjacent to the limbs to disperse the pain. Sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSHL) is a kind of otological emergency with sudden onset within 72 hours, with unilateral hearing loss, and hearing loss of ≥20 dB in 2 connected frequencies, and most of the patients have no obvious triggers. Most patients with SSHL are accompanied by tinnitus, vertigo, and nausea and vomiting.

Objectives: To observe the effect of electroacupuncture (EA) on central nervous inflammatory response in obese rats, so as to explore its mechanisms underlying improvement of obesity.
Methods: Male SD rats were randomly allocated to normal control, model, EA and sham-EA groups (=15/group). Rats of the normal group were fed with normal diet, and the obesity model was established by feeding the rats with high-fat diet for 8 weeks.

Objectives: To observe the effect of electroacupuncture (EA) at "Zusanli" (ST36) on improving cardiac function in mice with chronic heart failure (CHF), so as to explore the mechanism of its regulation on the autonomic nervous system.
Methods: Eighteen C57BL/6J mice were randomly divided into sham-surgery, model, and EA groups, with 6 mice in each group. The model of myocardial ischemia followed by CHF was induced by ligation of the anterior descending branch of the left coronary artery.

Objective: To investigate the clinical effect of electroacupuncture (EA) in preventing chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN).
Methods: Fifty-two patients with breast cancer in the regimen of taxane-assisted/neoadjuvant chemotherapy, were randomly divided into an EA group (26 cases, 3 cases dropped out) and a usual care (UC) group (26 cases, 1 case dropped out). In the UC group, on the basis of standard chemotherapy regimen, the routine nursing was administered.

Introduction: Acupuncture on the acupuncture point GV20 has been considered effective for managing psychoneurological disorders since ancient times, and GV20 is now regularly used to treat stress-related diseases (SRDs), including psychoneurological disorders. Although reports indicating that acupuncture stimulation of GV20 alone regulates cerebral blood flow (CBF) in brain regions associated with SRDs have been scattered, from the perspective of the need for earlier action, the effects on subjective stress as self-reported in the stress state of healthy individuals and CBF changes in related prefrontal cortex (PFC) subregions, which is based as underlying mechanism, remain unclear. Therefore, there is a need to explore effective methods for analyzing such effects.
