AI Article Synopsis

  • Sjögren's disease (SjD) is an autoimmune disorder causing dry eyes and mouth, often linked to symptoms like fatigue and pain due to chronic inflammation.
  • The causes of SjD are not fully understood but are thought to involve a mix of environmental, genetic, hormonal, and metabolic factors.
  • Recent research indicates that cholesterol metabolism might play a significant role in both immune and non-immune processes related to SjD.

Article Abstract

Sjögren's disease (SjD) is a systemic autoimmune disorder characterized by dry eyes and mouth caused by chronic inflammation and is often accompanied by various extra-glandular manifestations, including fatigue and diffuse pain. Although the pathogenesis of the disease remains elusive, several factors (e.g. environmental, genetic and hormonal factors, abnormal metabolic status) are associated with this condition. Accumulating evidence suggests a potential role of cholesterol metabolism in immune and non-immune modulation in various diseases. In this review, we summarize the current findings on the associations between cholesterol metabolism and SjD.

Valence-engineering modulation of MoS clusters for enhancing biocatalytic activity.

Earth-abundant MoS with the advantages of a stable structure, tunable bandgap, and easy shear has great potential for applications in the fields of catalysis, biomedicine, and so on. However, the biocatalytic activity of MoS remains little investigated and is insufficient for biomedical applications. In this work, we develop ultra-small and water-soluble MoS clusters with superior antioxidant activity and enzyme-like activity valence-engineering modulation with Ce doping.

Background: Uric acid (UA) plays an important role in cardiovascular diseases, yet its implications in elderly patients remains incompletely understood. This study aimed to explore the impact of UA on the prognosis in advanced-age patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS).

Methods: We included 526 patients aged 80 and older who were diagnosed with ACS.

Endometriosis and adenomyosis are debilitating gynecological conditions that severely affect the quality of life of women. Traditional diagnostic and treatment methods, including laparoscopic surgery and hormonal therapy, face significant limitations such as incomplete lesion detection, high recurrence rates, and adverse side effects. Emerging bioengineering technologies offer promising solutions for precise diagnosis and therapy of these diseases.
