IL-33, a neutrophil extracellular trap-related gene involved in the progression of diabetic kidney disease.

Inflamm Res

January 2025

Department of Nephrology, First Affiliated Hospital of Naval Medical University, Shanghai Changhai Hospital, Shanghai, China.

Background: Chronic inflammation is well recognized as a key factor related to renal function deterioration in patients with diabetic kidney disease (DKD). Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) play an important role in amplifying inflammation. With respect to NET-related genes, the aim of this study was to explore the mechanism of DKD progression and therefore identify potential intervention targets.

Background: Implementation of semaglutide weight loss therapy has been challenging due to drug supply and cost, underscoring a need to identify those who derive the greatest absolute benefit.

Objectives: Allocation of semaglutide was modeled according to coronary artery calcium (CAC) among individuals without diabetes or established atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (CVD).

Methods: In this analysis, 3,129 participants in the MESA (Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis) without diabetes or clinical CVD met body mass index criteria for semaglutide and underwent CAC scoring on noncontrast cardiac computed tomography.

RSK4 promotes the metastasis of clear cell renal cell carcinoma by activating RUNX1-mediated angiogenesis.

Cancer Biol Ther

December 2025

State Key Laboratory of Cancer Biology, Department of Pathology, Xijing Hospital, Air Force Military Medical University, Xi'an, China.

Ribosomal S6 protein kinase 4 (RSK4), a member of the serine‒threonine kinase family, plays a vital role in the Ras‒MAPK pathway. This kinase is responsible for managing several cellular activities, including cell growth, proliferation, survival, and mobility. In this study, we observed higher RSK4 protein expression in clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) than in normal kidney tissue, and the overexpression of RSK4 might predict poor outcomes for ccRCC patients.

The Clinical and Economic Burden of Chronic Kidney Disease in Poland: Inside Patient-Level Microsimulation Modelling of CKD.

J Clin Med

December 2024

Department of Nephrology, Hypertension, Transplantation and Internal Medicine, Central University Hospital, Medical University of Lodz, 90-419 Lodz, Poland.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is associated with increased annual costs, with the highest costs attributable to renal replacement therapy (RRT). These costs will rise as prevalence increases. Therefore, forecasting the future prevalence and economic burden of CKD, particularly in underdiagnosed populations, may provide valuable insights to policymakers looking at strategies to implement interventions to delay CKD progression.

Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is a minimally invasive procedure that utilizes localized heat to treat tumors by inducing localized tissue thermal damage. The present study aimed to evaluate the temperature evolution and spatial distribution, ablation size, and reproducibility of ablation zones in ex vivo liver, kidney, and lung using a commercial device, i.e.
