The entropy of mixing of a multicomponent system of particles is a simple expression of the molar fractions for the equilibrium state, but its intermediate values for transient (nonequilibrium) states can not be calculated directly from the particle coordinates so far. We propose a simple expression for the configurational entropy of mixing based solely on the set of instantaneous coordinates, which is suitable for the on-the-fly determination of the degree of mixing along a molecular dynamics trajectory. We illustrate the applicability of our scheme with the example of several molecular mixtures that exhibit fast and slow mixing and demixing processes within a molecular dynamics simulation.

Electrolyte engineering has emerged as an effective strategy for stabilizing Zn-metal anodes. However, a single solute or solvent additive is far from sufficient to meet the requirements for electrolyte cycling stability. Here, we report a new-type high-entropy electrolyte composed of equal molar amounts of Zn(OTf)2 and LiOTf, along with equal volumes of H2O, triethyl phosphate, and dimethyl sulfoxide, which enhances electrolyte stability by increasing solvation entropy.

In this study, a binary composite adsorbent based on activated carbon and phosphoric acid geopolymer foam (ACP) was prepared by combining phosphoric acid geopolymer (PAGP) with activated carbon (AC) and applied for the removal of methylene blue (MB). Activated carbon was thoroughly mixed with a mixture of fly ash and metakaolin in varying ratios, followed by phosphoric acid activation and thermal curing. The ACP adsorbent was characterized using scanning electron microscope (SEM), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrophotometer, X-ray diffractometer (XRD), surface area analyser (SAP), and thermogravimetric analyser (TGA).

The study of self-assembly in confined spaces has gained significant attention among amphiphilic superstructures and colloidal design. The additional complexity introduced by interactions between contents and their containers, along with the effects of shape and lipid mixing, makes multivesicular bodies an interesting subject of study. Despite its promising applications in biomedicine, such as drug delivery and biomimetic materials, much remains unexplored.

Background/objectives: Cystoscopy is necessary for diagnosing bladder cancer, but it has limitations in identifying ambiguous lesions, such as carcinoma in situ (CIS), which leads to a high recurrence rate of bladder cancer. With the significant advancements in deep learning in the medical field, several studies have explored its application in cystoscopy. This study aimed to utilize the VGG19 and Deeplab v3+ deep learning models to classify and segment cystoscope images, respectively.

In this study, FeCoNiCrSi (x = 0, 4, and 8) powders were successfully prepared using the aerosol method and employed to produce high-entropy coatings on Q235 steel via laser cladding. The microstructure and phase composition of the coatings were analyzed using scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction. Corrosion resistance and potential were evaluated through electrochemical analysis and Kelvin probe force microscopy.
